2017 National Signing Day Profile: LaDamion Hunt

LaDamion Hunt, 6’0”, 183 pounds, Carrolton, GA (Carrolton High School), CB, 247Sports Composite Ranking: 3-star (82.43)

IU has a number of very good players in the secondary. Marcelino Ball and Zeke Walker and Ben Bach are terrific options at Husky. Jonathan Crawford, Chase Dutra, Khalil Bryant and Tony Fields are among the quality options at safety. However, they don’t have an abundance of guys that are truly “cover corners”. Rashard Fant is a lockdown senior corner that IU is very thankful to have back for the 2017 season, A’Shon Riggins emerged as a very good second corner and Tyler Green improved greatly throughout the season but the rest of the depth chart is largely unproven and the Hoosiers needed to bring in at least one cover corner in this class. IU coaches looked to the Peach State and hope they found the answer in three-star prospect LaDamion Hunt.

Hunt chose IU over an impressive list of suitors. He was offered by Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis, Minnesota, West Virginia and others but he has officially signed on to play for Tom Allen. Hunt has pretty solid size for an outside corner, although like all incoming freshmen, he needs to improve his overall strength. His highlight tape showed impressive speed and good coverage instincts. Scouting reports from recruiting experts indicate he does a nice job of helping on the run as well, mainly due to solid tackling and taking good angles.

IU’s defense improved by leaps and bounds in their first year under Tom Allen and now that the former defensive coordinator has taken over the program, there’s no reason to hope the defense won’t continue to rise in Bloomington. They hope the newest signee from Georgia can be a part of it in the years to come.
