No police watching for speeders, no security at airports, etc either then, right?

In 1933 the German police and paramilitary stood guard at polling stations. You seem to like that idea, and citizens routinely asked, "papers please".

What kind of papers were the Nazis asking for?

There have been ~70 cases of illegal voting over the past 100 years, in the entirety of the USA, combined. Since 2016, a majority of such cases are by Trump supporters, deluded into thinking that they need to cheat to "catch up" to imaginary cheating done by their opponents.

It is nowhere near as frequent as (for example) felony convictions by our sitting POTUS over the last 10 years,

This isn't really that hard.  Dozens of states have solid voter ID systems.  Make the states that don't replicate what already works well in other states.

I agree with everything you said here. That said, if that was what this was really about then it likely already would have been done.

Identification papers to determine if you were an enemy of the state and/or a non-citizen.

@oneeyedundertaker Because white people in Carmel will be worried about voter intimidation.

Once again, Republicans wasting time and money on something that is NOT a problem, but they get their Fox listening minions to believe there is. No matter who studies and looks for voter fraud, it’s a very rare occurrence.

We should not be Federalizing elections, full stop. States run elections and create election requirements and have done so since the founding... And for good reason. Absent some sort of constitutional amendment the SAVE act is a massive federal overreach.

Past performance is not indicative of future results.  Democrat run states have proven they cannot be counted on to serve the best interests of the country & willingly ignore fraud.  As far as it being Trump supporters committing the fraud, you will see these cases increase as well, all the more reason to increase security. I’ll dumb it down for you, do you lock your doors when you’re not home or your car when you’re not in it?

The citizenship part, then yes I side with the Nazis.  Tell me more about how they identified enemies of the state & how that is analogous to proof of citizenship in our elections.

Of course the whole premise of @arthur-dent’s question is idiotic anyway - Marv, if I tell you that a liquor store in Germany asked for proof of age does that means liquor store owners today are Nazis too or like Nazis?

Certainly can't be because it would be "unfair" to African Americans or Latinos...

https://twitter.com/america/status/2032115702795026594

Because Democrats think it would make it more difficult for them to win elections.

Exactly.  They think black people, women, & other minorities are too lazy or stupid to obtain proof of citizenship or voting eligibility.  And they know that cheating helps them.

If you have other acceptable ID to prove proof of citizenship other than those laid out in the SAVE act we’re all ears.

I gave it to you.  Have a real id driver's licence and check the SS# with ssa.gov.  Many states, including FL, already do it.  Then if you don't have a driver's licence, have an alternative no-cost state-issued id while also requiring a SS# be presented. Have a SS card is a big deal. The only non-citizens who can get a SS# are those issues one for long-term work purposes, and they are issued a number that identifies them as a non-citizen.

This isn't really that hard.  Dozens of states have solid voter ID systems.  Make the states that don't replicate what already works well in other states.

As has been established and as you’ve ignored, a Real ID and SS# are not proof of citizenship.

Why don’t you ever argue in good faith. Like ever?

Zeke I'm going to have to disagree on this one. When polls say 80% of the citizens want something the government should probably listen to its citizens and enact it.  I think it's sort of the point of Democracy.
