Friendly reminder that U.S. students perform quite well compared to the world. The decline has been from a changing of our demographics. White Americans perform at very high level and now make up a much smaller percentage of the pie.
However, U.S. Hispanics and blacks still outperform Hispanics and blacks everywhere else in the world. And U.S. Asians are the best in the world. It's a myth that American schools aren't doing a good job.
There will always be exceptions but the #1 solution is the intact nuclear family
IQ variation amongst different races is real. Even controlled for environment, etc. That’s an uncomfortable topic and I’m not sure we should ever litigate it in the public square as there is no utility to it. Treating people as individuals still rules the roost.
On the whole Blacks have made progress since the Civil War but Whites have done better. IMO capitalism is about ownership and not working for somebody else. In this regard, I would argue Whites have done way better than Blacks.
Take the legal profession, and Clarence Thomas versus John Morgan for example.
Morgan started a private firm in 1988 and has since expanded his holdings and diversified his asset holdings to other fields. Thomas about the same time took a salary job serving the public as a Supreme Court Justice. The entrepreneur Morgan has a net worth of 1.5 billion today while Thomas is worth 1.5 million. So, both have made progress, but Morgan has done a thousand times better.
Admittedly, my example is limited in scope and doesn't tell the whole story.
@hoot I think for blacks you can start the clock 100 years later. Civil rights laws. They were largely denied economical equality prior thereto.
but we’re now six decades removed and for those of us who live in cities black fatigues is real. Screaming at their kids in target. Smell like weed at 9 am. Account for the vast majority of violent crime. Teen takeovers. Their culture needs a reboot. Dems require no accountability. I don’t know the remedy. Maybe reparations and see if that helps. If you live in a city blacks ruin public transportation, public safety, public schools. Clog up the courts. Keep police budgets necessary. There’s no point sugarcoating it. Why.

Getting back to the OP's OP, I watched that video and came away thinking just the opposite. It warms the heart knowing that in this day and age that there are still young gals in bikinis @ the beach who care not a whit for doom and gloom of the political news cycle.
A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"

I think it's more socioeconomic than cultural. A lot of what you said in that first paragraph above applies to poor, white Appalachian folks too. I'm not saying rates of certain crimes aren't higher in inner cities; I'm just not convinced any race or ethnicity has cornered the market on crime.

I think I'm with you. And for what it's worth, I think most of us wouldn't give two shits about the answers to those questions if we were a few drinks into a great day-drinking day at the beach.
