They don’t stand a prayer now. We need more ships, but the notion of 30,000 to 40,000 ton Trump class battleships with weapons systems which don’t currently exist is one that comes from an ignorant buffoon.

I don’t think we can retrofit rail guns. We need a new ship to deploy them. After wasting billions on the Zumwalts, LCS’s and the frigates, the Navy needs an efficient and useful design. What do you or your friends suggest for rail guns? Or are rail guns never gonna be deployed?
@co-hoosier Sure would be nice to have a President who would explain to US citizens what our objectives are and why they are our objectives.
When Trump said he was involved in the design of the new class, I looked for the pool and pool bar. 😊
I hafta think the next class of warship would have to be fully drone capable and able to command subsurface, surface and airborne drones. Like the AF is doing with the B21. No mention of drones in the specs.
That Trump class ship will never be produced. It's considered a joke within the Navy. Trump will leave office, and the notion will immediately die. As of now, there is no funding for anything related to the ship and if it stays that way in the next three defense bills, we won't waste any money on it. We are going to be building Frigates which will control drones. Every ship we have could be modified to control drones.When Trump said he was involved in the design of the new class, I looked for the pool and pool bar. 😊

Pentagon To Contract Fleet Of Seaplanes For The Pacific
We stopped the rail gun program about 4 years ago. Apparently, the President imagines that we'll put them on his "battleships." Again, I don't think these will ever be built, but maybe this breathes some life back into the rail gun program.They don’t stand a prayer now. The Navy's railgun may be back from the dead — for now
@spartans9312 Yep. It was supposedly about drugs, then we added ousting Maduro, and now it’s about taking the oil.
Looks like we have moved to sanctions and economic pressures and tabled military intervention for the time being

@dbmhoosier Not a warmonger?
You're damn right I support military intervention there. You think we should leave these people to die? But then you support war in Ukraine. Make it make sense.

They've been transparent from the beginning on stopping the flow of drugs and saving American lives. So, far it's been a great accomplishment by the military and border patrol. Kudos to them and the Trump administration for saving Americans.

LOL. Maybe look a little closer at that graph.

Yes, but you're still missing the big picture. When do OD's start to rise? During the shut down. They are now in the process of returning to pre-pandemic levels. That decline was noted at the beginning of 2024, and some idiot Tweeter who didn't know how to read a graph attributed this to Trump's border policy.
Note that deaths from alcohol poisoning also show the same beginnings of a decline by 2024 (actually earlier), although the data isn't as granular as it is for drugs. https://www.rgare.com/knowledge-center/article/is-alcohol-use-drying-up--will-mortality-keep-pace
We should be happy that this trend is happening. But we shouldn't fool ourselves into thinking it has anything to do with policy. Now the original spike, that you might find a way to blame on policy (in terms of how the government responded to Covid), but the decline we are witnessing now is a perfectly natural snapback from that spike.

I agree with 80% of this, but think some of the rise was from the open border policy Biden had.
