Been watching some matches with my son. It's so different than the last 15-20 years. For so long, I became accustomed to the SuperPower era with Rafa, Federer, Williams, and then Djokovich. Now, it's a bunch of players I've never heard of.
Current favorites to watch? This Shelton guy seems interesting--has some reality show drama, dating Dennis Rodman's daughter.

The big two now are Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Sinner is a big German-looking, German-speaking Northern Italian and Alcaraz is a Spanish freak athlete. They meet in the finals of most tournaments they’re in. Because of them and the next tier of young guys, tennis should be good for awhile.
Just need an American male to rip of a bunch of majors. Serena Williams is why so many US women play tennis but need a larger-than-life dude to get Americans to watch again. It really is an American sport.

i can't even think of the last great american male
So on the first page of this board we have threads on pickleball, the wnba, the llws, and now tennis.
Make of that what you will.

The US Open was played in June at Oakmont
American or not, I loved watching Federer.Just need an American male to rip of a bunch of majors.

Andy Roddick was the last American male to win a slam but really it’s Pete Sampras. Been too long.
Grace personified.
Yeah I looked up the list of Grand Slam winners after writing the OP. Looks like Alcaraz, Sinner, and Djokovich have won the last 13.Been watching some matches with my son. I remember Alcaraz but had never heard of Sinner.
@mapletom yup. so what's the story? not popular with american kids? i thought we were the mecca for tennis. hell south fla is full of these academies. all over boca, fort lauderdale, etc.
I’d prefer a guy who drank Schlitz, smoked heaters while walking into a match, and was completely out of shape. Wore NB grillers to play in. Took notes on his opponent in a little notebook he carried around. Had a nice horseshoe male-pattern baldness look going at 25.@mapletom mercy. That has to be twenty years
yup, need a gen Z version of Andre Agassi to show up. Flops hair around, listens to bad trap music w clownishly large head phones, takes winnings in crypto. Gets an exhibition match on the WH lawn. Nuff said.
@bradstevens check sinner out
cool things about watching tennis:
51 week season
played on every continent, something to watch everyday at almost anytime
top players play each other every week
fit women moaning, sweating, grunting
Not very pop, have to be rich to afford to get really good, then have to dedicate your life to it at a young age. Limits the pool of athletes off the bat.@mapletom yup. so what's the story? not popular with american kids? i thought we were the mecca for tennis. hell south fla is full of these academies. all over boca, fort lauderdale, etc.
