Lots of nice stretches along the coast. I’m a fan of Sanibel and Captiva

Sanibel has been my favorite since we went there when 50+ years ago. I remember we started the trip staying in Fort Myers Beach. But the hotel was kind of a dump and we took a day trip to Sanibel. My mom loved it so much that we moved to a hotel on Sanibel. My wife's family used to have a condo in Fort Myers, so I have been back to Sanibel on several occasions.

A couple years ago I spent a few days in Vero Beach. While the reason I was there was terrible, Vero Beach was very interesting. Not like other places I have been in Florida, as it seemed much more of a local community than a place filled with vacationers, etc.

Hard to tell this old man what to do with his life.

Tell him to join a book club with readers half his age.  Good for healthy aging.

Ran into my ex’s friend who is a distributor at the grocery store. Said drinking is wayyyyyy down. Wine most notably.  I told him I do my part

Reports in Denver are that the craft beer business is down and the weed shops are hurting.  Nobody knows the reasons.  Not so many young people? Expense? Illegal drugs? Life style changes?

I think once you get that far north on the Eastern coast, it becomes less touristy. Even parts of Palm Beach / West Palm don't seem nearly as touristy as other areas.

I've rented villas or smaller cottages on both Sanibel and Captiva and really enjoy them. I do feel like time slows down more than if you just went to Fort Myers Beach or even Naples. Less traffic, less modernity. Those places were severely damaged, particularly Captiva, by the recent storms, so I'm guessing they are still in rebuilding mode.

Lifestyle changes. Young people aren't drinking as much. Look at the rise in Athletic and other non-alcoholic beer (why anyone would want to drink that swill is beyond me).

The craft beer boom also bred too many shitty producers IMO, so quality isn't as good as it was 10 years ago.

@noodle it's far enough north that it doesn't get the so fla spillover.  definitely a community kind of "old fla" vibe.  @jdb agreed re some spots still in pbc.  lake worth etc. doesn't see as much touristy.  pbc is so weird tho bc no matter where you are you are just stone's throw from some shitty areas

@jdb I like Malbecs.  I don’t eat red meat so I don’t find it’s worth spending good money on Cabs.  I do however eat a lot of fish and go with a good Pinot Noir.

woof. Pinot Noir is basically Rose. Way too sweet for me.

my consumption has dropped significantly and I’ve tried to cut out alcohol.

@jdb he's doing it because he wants to.  doesn't mean he doesn't enjoy other stuff.  and i firmly believe continuing that routine, keeping that brain going, going to work, lifting as heavy weights as you can handle, and sprinting along with luck is the key to longevity

Yep. CoH's mind is going to live to 200 as he continues to lift the heavy weights reading and discussing Crime and Punishment, Moby Dick, etc.

Me--I'm dead in 10 years.

Me–I’m dead in 10 years.

I've got a couple more lucid years, a couple more shouting at clouds, and maybe one more drooling in my porridge.
