From what I have seen, the metal detectors were on the floor above. You would then go down a hallway to a staircase, go down many flights of stairs, and still be some distance away from the ballroom entrance, which had guards. I guess that some of the shots could be heard, so I am not minimizing the fear/panic factor. But to imply that this was a close call would be a stretch. The guy planned this about as well as Tom Crean planned a way to attack the Syracuse zone.
