Mark 1:15 and 14 is where Jesus begins his Galilean ministry.

Called the temple a den of thieves because the vast profits from the market inside the temple area were partly used to enrich the family of the high priest.

It isn't the profits that bothers him, it is the obstructing access for all nations to pray, and he's quoting Jeremiah and Isaiah, but either way, he's pushing back on the Jewish leaders claim to the Temple

I don't understand your reference to the beginning of Jesus' ministry.  He says what says, a political and theological statement

He was mad because it was a perversion of the uses of God’s house. It occurred on a Monday. He had done the same thing 3 years earlier.

He Thought it best to get farther away from Jerusalem. He had been preaching in the lower Jordan area. The Pharisees were becoming more hostile. Herod had put John in prison

All this talk about desiring peace, loving your neighbor... LBB finds it an abomination.

Also, it would seem to me that every pope since I’ve been alive has been critical of something a U.S. president has done at one point or another. It’s not all that hard to see why this current pope criticizing Trump has tipped the scales. LBB is a full-on cult member.

Compassion for immigrants/those less fortunate and being anti-war is as Christ like as it gets. It’s hard to fathom how anyone could pervert Christ’s teachings the way a lot of the MAGA people have. And yet, here we are. As someone else said here, LBB doesn’t seem all that smart.

Well said.

Trump is a big, fat, tough-talking loudmouth but, at his core, he's a thin-skinned weasel.  He can sure dish it out but he can't take any criticism, no matter how valid.

As the pope said, the message of the gospel is being abused.  I'd go a step further.  A gross bastardization of Christianity is happening in the evangelical movement and in this administration. Kudos to the pope for standing up to Trump.

It's also worth mentioning that if the Pope hadn't promoted a message of peace in the face Trump threatening mass genocide, the Pope would rightly be criticized for that.

I found many reasons to leave but ultimately I left because I realized that Catholicism was chock full of unbiblical doctrines. Francis' numerous forays into world politics were what initially compelled me to take a hard look at the worldly Catholic system.

With that said there are many Godly people in the Catholic Church and I certainly anticipate that they'll go straight to Heaven. However, I am 100% convinced that Catholicism is wrong about many doctrines, starting with their various Popes wanting to be worldly political leaders.

"Render unto Caeser what is owed to Ceaser..." is not a apolitical.  Rather, his statement forces the Pharisees to question what really belongs to God, as the assumption of the Pharisees was that Caeser owned it all.

Matthew 22:20-21

20 And Jesus said to them, “Whose likeness and inscription is this?” 21 They said, “Caesar's.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.”

It appears that I touched a nerve by expressing the view that Catholicism contradicts a number of Jesus's teachings. The outrage is something I'd expect to hear from members of a cult.

You've managed to unite atheists, agnostics and Christians in a chorus of "You're full of shit."  Well done!

Here is a picture of Pope John Paul II kissing a Koran, a blasphemous book that says that Jesus is NOT the Messiah. Do you believe that Jesus would kiss such a book in order to appease those opposed to his ministry?

Don't take this the wrong way, but you are incredibly stupid.

The opening of Mark is very clear "The kingdom of God has come near".  Mark 1:15.  It couldn't possibly be more political than that.

Brother, our Lord Jesus had no interest in the petty, ungodly, politics of this forsaken world. In fact, we are taught time and again NOT to be "of the world". Jesus and the Apostles preached a message to follow God, to change from sin, and to love one another. Never were they involved in the politics of this world.

John 17:15-16 esv

15 I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one. 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

I don't believe any faithful follower of Christ would respond in the manner that I've seen here. I can share compelling evidence that Catholicism is NOT Jesus's church here on Earth. As for you, your hatred of me stems from the fact that you are of this world and are opposed to truth, especially the truth of God. You should change before you stand in judgment before Christ.

@littlebitchbuckeye Do you know that the Quran does in fact call Jesus the Messiah?

˹Remember˺ when the angels proclaimed, “O Mary! Allah gives you good news of a Word1 from Him, his name will be the Messiah,2 Jesus, son of Mary; honoured in this world and the Hereafter, and he will be one of those nearest ˹to Allah˺.

The same Google search that led me to above says the word Messiah is used 9 times in reference to Jesus.

Clearly there are huge differences between the religions. But I see no issue with trying to show respect when meeting people to build bridges.
