A big chunk of Hegseth's "prayer" yesterday at his Pentagon worship service was from the Gospel of Quentin. It was a fake bible quote, written by Quentin Tarantino and Roger Avary for Pulp Fiction and recited by Jules, Samuel L. Jackson's character, just before he blows a guy away early in the movie.

You can't make this shit up.

The clown show continues.

Oh look, Butch is outraged again. Yawn.

Not sure why we even have worship services at the Pentagon, but at least try to give the context for what Hegseth said.  He didn't attribute the prayer to the Bible, and he didn't come up with it on his own:

Hegseth added that reminded him of the prayer handed to him a couple of days ago that was “delivered from the lead mission planner of Sandy 1,” the head of the recent rescue mission that recently located and extracted Air Force crew members shot down in Iran. Hegseth then led those at the service in saying the prayer.

“The path of the downed aviator is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men,” Hegseth prayed. “Blessed is he who, in the name of camaraderie and duty, shepherd the lost through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother’s keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to capture and destroy my brother. And you will know my call sign is Sandy 1 when I lay my vengeance upon thee, and amen.”

Before repeating that prayer, Hegseth mentioned he was told the prayer is titled “CSAR 2517,” which stands for “Combat Search And Rescue” and alludes to the fact that it borrows some wording from Ezekiel 25:17 (though there are other verses also used, like with his violent prayer at last month’s service). The last two sentences of the prayer do mirror language from Ezekiel, except the speaker is changed from being God to the commander of the U.S. mission.

You could have made a point without that opening shot.  Act like a man for a change, BS, instead of a petty little girl. But thanks for underscoring my point and the link.

No, Hegseth didn't specifically say, "This verse is from the Bible, the Book of ____, " etc., but he didn't give Tarantino attribution either! This bullshit reminds me of the violent "prayer" from a month or so ago that was supposedly first uttered by a nameless minister.  LOL.

Bottom line, and this needs no additional context - - Hegseth took much of his "prayer" from the lines of a hitman in Pulp Fiction.  Whether he realized it at the time or not, that's where it came from. What a Christian!

You're flailing again, in your desperate attempt to nail me in a "gotcha!"  Sad that that is what motivates you.

Hegseth... alludes to the fact that it borrows some wording from Ezekiel 25:17

He didn't say it "borrows some wording" from it.  Hegseth said, precisely, that the prayer "is meant to reflect Ezekiel 25:17".

That would suggest some degree of paraphrasing or adaptation of the precise Bible verse to make it better understood in the language of today.  Not that it was some movie quote he was using, without attribution.  Why not attribute it properly?  Either he was too stupid or drunk to know where it came from, or he knew, would be embarrassed to say where it came from, and simply hoped that nobody would notice

So Hegseth

A. Never claimed it was a direct quote from scripture

B. Prefaced that it was first lead by the mission planner for Sandy 1

You are so lame.

Based on reporting, he seems to be delaying promotions based solely on gender and race.

Did the reporting you read offer the govt side of the story?

Hegseth has fired people solely because they're women, minorities

Who?

@aloha-hoosier this one sh#t for brains.  It's not vague.

You idiot. I've linked articles on those firings more than once and that was the answer to that question. Their names are listed. Again, it's not my fault you haven't read them and remain ignorant. To be completely accurate, he fired women and minorities at a very disproportionate rate when there was no evidence of any wrongdoing or poor performance. He didn't provide justification for those firings. It's a fact these people were fired and that Hegseth failed to provide justification. It's my opinion that he fired them because they were women and minorities. It's an opinion based upon his comments and actions. You can disagree with that opinion, but it is an informed opinion. I should have said, "in my opinion" at the end, I will admit to that mistake, but I figured most were smart enough to understand that it was my opinion based on reading the articles and my previous posts about it. I was wrong on both counts with you. You didn't read the articles or posts and aren't smart enough to understand.

We agree it is your opinion. Thanks for correcting your claim.

The notion that DEI has affected our military leadership the way DEI has infiltrated the rolls of academia is unfounded and virtually absurd considering how intransigent our military hierarchy has been through time (e.g., “don’t ask, don’t tell”).

This is the nut of the issue if you want to have an intelligent discussion about this.

Posted by: @aloha-hoosier

Only Hegseth can tell us his justifications and reasons for each officer and he’s not doing it.

Do SecDef commonly publicly comment on the reasons why individual officers were not advanced?

Gemini:

No, it is not common for the Department of Defense (DOD) to publicly disclose the specific reasons why individual officers are not promoted to brigadier general (1-star rank).
Promotions to general officer rank are highly confidential and merit-based processes designed to be insulated from public or political scrutiny, with non-selections usually kept private to protect the individual’s career.

Here are the key details regarding how this process operates:
  • Standard Confidentiality: When colonels are passed over for brigadier general, the DOD generally does not publicize these names or the reasons for non-selection. The process focuses on providing the promotion list to the Senate for approval.
  • Reasons for Non-Promotion: When an officer is removed from a promotion list, it is typically due to a Promotion Review Board (PRB) reviewing "derogatory information" found during post-board screenings, such as misconduct, investigations, or criminal activity.
  • Privacy Protections: The reasons for non-selection are often protected by privacy regulations to protect the officer.
  • Unusual Intervention (2026): Recent reports in March/April 2026 indicate that Secretary of War Pete Hegseth intervened in the promotion process by removing four Army officers (two Black men, two women) from a 1-star promotion list, a move described by military officials as "highly unusual" and deviating from the standard practice of approving or rejecting lists in their entirety. In such cases, the Pentagon generally disputes reports, citing "meritocracy" and avoiding public specifics on the removed officers, while critics raise concerns about political intervention.

I understand that you do not buy the government's story as being valid, good enough, or within the SOP.  I don't need to have any military experience to grasp that.

What I was driving at above, which couldn't be clearer, is that the government has a story to tell. It's not complicated: they think these people either hold DEI woke views of the military that they consider detrimental to the effectiveness of the military, or that they were advanced solely or in a major part because of affirmative action, or both.  I don't think we know which is which and I don't think it's common for the public to be informed as to why particular officers were not advanced.

Note, they didn't block all minority or women candidates, so the notion as expressed above that the only reason they were blocked was because of their sex or race is questionable. My guess would be that the people who were blocked gave a presentation or wrote a memo with some form of Kendian claptrap or was outspoken about the Covid vaccine or masks, and Hegseth wants to purge the military of people who championed that.

Gemini:

As of April 2026, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has not blocked all minority or women candidates, but he did directly strike four specific officers—two Black men and two women—from a promotion list to brigadier general, a highly unusual move. Reports suggest this is part of a broader effort to target officers based on race, gender, or perceived political alignment.

Key Details of the Promotion Actions:
  • Targeted Removals: Hegseth specifically removed two Black Army officers and two female Army officers from a promotion list, overruling senior Army leadership who supported them.
  • Broader Pattern: Reports indicate Hegseth has intervened to block or delay promotions for more than a dozen senior Black and female officers across all military branches.
  • "Woke" Purge: These actions are reportedly part of an initiative to remove officers deemed to be promoting "woke" ideologies, aiming to shift the demographic composition of senior military leadership.
  • Unusual Intervention: It is extremely rare for a defense secretary to personally strike individual names from a promotion list, which typically arrives pre-vetted by senior military leadership.:Reactions: The decisions have been criticized as discriminatory and political by some, while others in the administration have applauded the efforts to alter the leadership, say reports.

So in other words, getting rid of people who don't align with their politics.  Most people can't even agree on the definition of woke.  I highly doubt they have come up with a reason it needs purged from the military.

So a fairly safe bet it is nothing more than politicizing the military....even though it already leaned conservative beforehand

While you’re answering that explain the “international military/geopoltics” that you claim the thread is about. How’s that?

That Hegseth!  What a "prayer!"

If he's going to preach, he needs much more familiarity with scripture. And engage in some due diligence before reciting a "prayer" that is handed to him. And someone should tell him that Tarantino is probably not the best source for prayer material.
