@big-ryan by he's said he's not sure he'll get into Heaven. I'm sure we could all come up with reasons why that might be the case - and all the touchy-feelie evangelicals definitely could too. It's crazy to me that a guy, who by his own admission, probably has done enough bad shit in his life that he won't make it into heaven is THEIR guy.

It's one of the craziest things I've ever seen. He's as unprincipled and immoral as they come yet, as you've indicated, this is the guy the evangelicals have not only embraced but twisted themselves into pretzels defending. His rise (and rise again) is unquestionably the greatest con job of the 21st Century, and something social and political psychologists will be writing and talking about decades from now.
Picking Pence as his VP for the first run was a stroke of genius. It legitimized the ticket in the eyes of many of these people and pulled tons of evangelicals in. He then brainwashed millions into believing the 2020 election was stolen from him, and he was able to whitewash the disgraceful events of J6 and his election interference (for example, "Find 11,780 votes!"). The Trump federal prosecutions were rock-solid, but spun by Trump acolytes as an unjust persecution (just like what Jesus experienced!), Jack Smith was repeatedly described as "deranged," and there was full MAGA buy-in. And the impact of the Pennsylvania shooting can't be overstated. 45 minutes in the ER, not even a suture required, but he achieved hero status, the cult became stronger, and the shooting served as "proof" that he was divinely anointed by God.
Textbook propaganda and gaslighting.

It was all about abortion and the Supreme Court. Once that was done, they had to stick with him or else they'd be exposed as selling their souls for a political end. That's why the backlash he's now getting from so many "religious" types is so significant -- they're having to tacitly admit the guy is not what they had claimed.
@arthur-dent Gemini thinks LBB is an old Rivals poster called "Tressel_Is_God." That's not who I was thinking of. Do you remember the racist buckeye fan I'm trying to recall?
I don't think he was an IU Rivals poster. He showed up on the football board before the B1G Championship, was sane and civil, and talked good football talk. He showed up here in the Cooler at the same time or shortly thereafter. He played around a bit here after the game, then went silent until recently. He probably has been ostracized elsewhere.
