I'm sitting here working at my FiL's house. Someone comes to the door. It's a guy from PG&E. He's come to remove the remote sensor and control on the A/C unit. It's a little box that's bolted onto the side and tied into the system's electronics. It can be used to either remotely turn off the A/C or override the thermostat during brown outs/rolling black outs when there's high energy usage demands. Since my FiL is on oxygen and he applied for this program, they were coming out to remove it because they care about his health and know that the temperature in the house is important to his ongoing health concerns. They want to remove the regulator so he has a safer environment. He's been on oxygen since '22 and has been in a nursing home since the end of '24. The guy couldn't tell me when he applied, but it had to have been before Thanksgiving of 2024. I told the guy he could leave it on, since he wasn't living here anymore, but the paperwork says it has to come off!
The only thing worse than the state government of California is a California government regulated utility, apparently.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan.
