...theological conservatism is a durable proxy for political conservatism.
Except for being anti-abortion, widely-held Catholic theological beliefs and political conservatism seem to very often be polar opposites

Death penalty? Church Nope, MAGA yes
Feed the poor? MAGA Nope, Church yes

Are you under the impression I asked for your distorted views of MAGA or Conservatism? I promise you I did not.
...your distorted views of MAGA or Conservatism...
Distorted?
Is MAGA now strongly opposed to the death penalty?
Is MAGA now committed to feeding the poor?
Is MAGA now committed to treating even the poor undocumented immigrant with compassion?
Is MAGA now committed to world peace?
Is MAGA now committed to forgiveness, not retribution tours?
no, no, no, no, and no
Priests: 180 degrees opposite.

I don't know what "MAGA is" because it's an amorphous, crap word spewed by morons. Some people have called me MAGA, some people think I'm not.
Conservatives of course support the poor. Every study shows Conservatives as more charitable in both hours and money given. The history of the 20th and 21st century evidences that Democrats are more likely to start wars, which I guess makes them the party of peace in your estimation. Trump's cabinet is filled with people that have called him every name in the book, so I guess that shows some propensity for forgiveness.
The problem with shitlib statists, like yourself, is you view all the things you've listed above through the eyes of the State. Get onboard with our immigration policy, tax and spend policy, foreign policy or you're in defiance of Christ. We might even kill you if you don't.
Conservatives view it as a way to act towards others in their personal lives.
You think you're emulating Jesus, when it's actually closer to Pontius Pilate.
I agree that traditional conservatives are much more aligned with doing good deeds than are the MAGA morons / Project 2025 zealots now in charge.

I grew up agnostic but I’ve always had the impression Jesus would consider himself humanitarian rather than political.
@carramrod Butch's joke was an act of goodwill to make you smile or chuckle with that joke. Not everyone understands humor/funny. Allow me to insert not just funny, but funny as shit from the main board:

That is just precious.

Don't you claim to be a political conservative? Why are you now conflating political conservatives with MAGA?

Far be it from me to defend Shooter's dumb ass, but he's not doing that at all. He's trying (poorly) to respond to Farva's idiotic claim that theological and political conservatism walk hand-in-hand, as though the use of the same word in different contexts means they must be identical. Lazy thinking on Farva's part, amateur response on Shooter's, but I think that's clearly where he was trying to go.

I think GigglyRamGoo was arguing they line up pretty well, not that they are identical. But right or wrong, Shooter clearly wrote MAGA each time, and clearly says in the lead in that political conservatism seems the polar opposite of Catholic doctrine. He's equating the two clear as day. I assume CoH is happy with that; Aloha not so much.
He's also clearly laying out value judgments in each of those examples and loaded them to make MAGA look bad. But I'll give him this: on many of those you can make the same critique of old school republicans as he is here of MAGA. These are the same criticisms that liberals (including me when I was in my 20s) have been using against conservatives since I was a kid.
Again, though, how bizarre is that when he repeatedly insists he was a staunch Republican who voted for GWB twice and against Obama twice. How were the GWB era of Republicans more peace seeking, in favor of peace and kindness over material wants, interested in feeding the poor, or less in favor of the death penalty than today's MAGA republicans or compared to the Catholic Church or to Obama-era Dems?
@hhlurker He's here to teach! Apparently posters got it twisted and thought he was looking for conversation.
