Israel is flat out misleading. They published exactly how much food they distributed. Divide that number by how many people are in Gaza, and the answer is starvation. That’s what I did, and that’s what the Guardian did. Israel can deny all it wants, but you can’t deny math.

I think they are disputing whatever numbers the Guardian relied on:

The numbers I used, and the numbers The Guardian used, came directly from the Israeli government. Are you suggesting they are disputing their own numbers?

I'm not sure. I looked and couldn't find anything.

I'd guess (1) they are saying those numbers held for a month or two, and have since changed, (2) something else has to be taken into account but I don't know what, and (3) more aid could go in if Hamas and the UN would allow it.

Re (2), here's what AI has to say:

Tonnage is not an accurate measure of calories received by Gazans because it fails to account for three critical factors: the nutritional content of the food, the immense distribution challenges within the territory, and the amount of aid that is damaged, wasted, or diverted before it reaches the intended recipients.
Disconnect between tonnage and calories
  • Calorie density varies widely: The weight of food is a poor indicator of its energy value. A ton of vegetables contains far fewer calories than a ton of nutrient-dense foods like fortified biscuits or lentils. Aid shipments often consist of food with low caloric density, or are predominantly water, which has no calories.
  • Micronutrient deficiencies: Tonnage figures reveal nothing about nutritional value beyond calories. Humanitarian aid can lack the fruits and vegetables necessary to prevent micronutrient deficiencies. This can lead to a state where people receive some calories but are still malnourished and suffering from long-term health problems.
Failures in distribution
  • Access constraints: Bureaucratic restrictions, checkpoints, violence, and targeted attacks on aid workers create major obstacles for humanitarian organizations trying to deliver food aid. This means that a large portion of the food that enters Gaza may not reach people in need, particularly those in the most dangerous and isolated areas.
  • Infrastructure collapse: The destruction of roads, warehouses, and communication networks severely hampers aid distribution. Food that does enter Gaza may spoil or be ruined before it can be stored or delivered, leading to waste and further shortages.
  • Logistical bottlenecks: Even when aid arrives, the system for getting it to civilians is a major choke point. A UN report noted that even if the required tonnage of food is approved, actual deliveries often fall far short of the need due to logistical issues at border crossings.
Leakage and waste in the system
  • Diversion of aid: In conflict zones, there is a risk that food aid is diverted or seized by armed groups before it can reach civilians. While the total tonnage might be high, the actual amount consumed by the civilian population is lower due to such leakage.
  • Spoilage and damage: Aid can be lost to spoilage due to logistical issues, extreme heat, or damage during transport. This is a common issue with fresh or perishable food items, which are necessary for nutritional value beyond basic calories.
What is needed to accurately measure calorie intake
To get a clearer picture of the humanitarian situation, aid organizations rely on direct measurements and on-the-ground assessments rather than raw tonnage figures. This includes:
  • Using surveys and direct observation to understand the food consumption and nutritional status of the population.
  • Monitoring delivery, storage, and distribution to quantify the amount of food actually reaching families and individuals.
  • Focusing on both caloric quantity and dietary diversity, especially among vulnerable groups like children.

The article I used described what was in an Israeli food package, and provided a total calorie count for the whole thing. I did not double check the math, but it was supposedly based on the items that are in the actual packages.

You've exhausted my knowledge.

Palestine is uniting some interesting factions - Jews and Ole Miss - together.

All I'm saying is, you don't need Hamas' disinformation. The data we get from Israel alone is enough to conclude that Gazans aren't getting enough food. I'm not telling you who to blame. Just saying, the starvation thing, if it's not happening yet, is coming, because those people are absolutely not eating enough. And if we don't believe it simply because Hamas says it, that's a shame. Stopped clock and all that. Even the shepherd boy eventually saw a wolf.

Looks like Israel is finally smoking the Hamas political leadership out of their luxury hideouts in Qatar.

Netanyahu begins his ground assault in Gaza.  Just shows he really doesn’t care about the rest of the hostages.

As a Zionist this continues to sicken my stomach.  Even the orthodox community have begun to turn their backs on the treatment of Gaza citizens and the settlers of the West Bank.  Recently a letter signed by 80 Orthodox rabbis was written.  The Jewish community here is beginning to become more vocal in opposition.
