@hhlurker no coh is right. Trump operates within the system. Filed lawsuits. While trying to taint everything. But at the end of the day he honors the decisions. Like with the s.ct and voting. He just throws fits.
the emotional responses to Trump are just weak minded people. Trump is no threat. He’s just a dog shot president. We learned Dems were the real threat. They will literally do anything to win including lie about the condition of the president and deprive Americans of the right to vote.
this country has never seen anything as dirty as the democrat party. Then add their desire to control us as we saw with Covid, fuck with our kids, put violent criminals on our streets, and open the border to anyone the Trump complaints frankly sound asinine.
cowardly reluctance to take a principled stance against a US President with no scruples, no civility and no statesmanship.
Because I agree with most of Trumps policy choices, my principles require that I say so. Presidential temperament is a different matter and doesn’t . . . Ah . . . trump my policy agreements.

The guy tried to steal the election and stole state secrets. Is there nothing that trumps policies?

Your complaints are paranoid.
Trump incited jan 6 leading to deaths and freed them all. Legally yes, but he freed criminals which you rage against the Dems doing.
COH is right Trump won’t succeed in undermining the Constitution etc. But Trust is not coded anywhere in the Constitution or elsewhere. Trust is a human phenomenon that exists amongst human beings to whatever degree from total to none in any context. The USA has long flourished with a high degree of trust in our various systems. Citizens of other countries sadly are not so fortunate.
Yes, Trump can have a deleterious effect on trust in citizens. The simplest proof of this is Trump being re-elected as a 34-time felon. More than half the voters distrusted the court conclusion. The absurdity of that is remarkable. Conservative lawyers here are unconcerned we’re led by a felon.
Go figure.
Interesting that you call me a coward for agreeing with Trump. These days, such agreements brings a shit ton of bad blood. I accept that
Interesting that you focus on issues flowing from Trumps big mouth. I don’t like any of that any more than you do But immigration, border security, Middle East, foreign investment in US, rising real wages, private sector jobs, and now Greenland, are all more important. I don’t think anybody could have pulled off all these things and more.
COH, you know full well you’re mischaracterizing what I called cowardly.Interesting that you call me a coward for agreeing with Trump.
Even here you can’t help minimizing Trump’s actions. Inciting an insurrection is a tad more than being a big mouth.Interesting that you focus on issues flowing from Trumps big mouth.
I sincerely think you might have allowed yourself to become a bit jaded. You’re the once proud exponent of American Exceptionalism. Surely that includes aspiring to be virtuous in at least one facet or another. Trump is an unrefined boor at best lacking any virtue and not at all exceptional.I don’t like any of that any more than you do.
I wholeheartedly disagree that Trump achieved anything that other conservatives wouldn’t have. Even Obama deported more criminals than Trump has. I’ll concede two achievements: getting NATO countries to contribute more and the recent Greenland deal (if ratified by Greenland abd Denmark).
Im not going down the defend Trump rabbit hole. But I will say your point about Trump and American virtue is overstated. American virtue is the product of a long history of American achievements in the world by thousands if not millions of us. If you think Trump has diminished that, maybe you should partner with those Canadians @aloha-hoosier mentioned. Our virtue is taking a hit, but Trump has little to do with that. It’s all about the sad state of public education in many quarters and those who think being anti-American is an appropriate fashion statement in higher education.
and now Greenland,
Greenland? When did you become concerned about Greenland? Until Trump last year, did you EVER start a thread on the need for a new military deal regarding Greenland? Of course not. We have an air base there. We had more than that in the Cold War but WE chose to leave. We have a 1952 treaty pretty much allows us to put as much as we want in Greenland. So Trump creates a fake crisis and solves it 6 weeks before an election and you tout it. Below is the treaty, feel free to point out all the ways it prevented American troops. My guess, it specified not only America but NATO can base there and that has a US wanting out of NATO unhappy.
Under the current deal we had over 10,000 there in the Cold War, including Thule Air Base, now gifted to the mighty Space Force and renamed.

About April 2023
First, are you equating American exceptionalism with American virtue?your point about Trump and American virtue is overstated. American virtue is the product of a long history of American achievements in the world by thousands if not millions of us.
Second, COH, you’re on a roll here mischaracterizing what I say. I didn’t pass judgment on Trump’s contribution to your long-aggrandized American Exceptionalism. I asked you if aspiring to be virtuous wasn’t something you include in AE because to me Trump is a base human who apparently glorifies being boorish rather than aspiring to be virtuous. I was indirectly complimenting you as a long-time exemplar here of more aspiring content.
In short, I was hinting at the possibility that you can both credit Trump’s policy and discredit his primitive uncivilized nature.
@co-hoosier the icebreaker story is interesting, thanks for sharing. Not sure if it answers any questions in this thread. Icebreakers or not, we have a treaty that guarantees pretty much unfettered access to Greenland.
Virtue is a component of American Exceptionalism.
In his mind, I think Trump would say he is driven by virtue. The Abraham Accords would be an example. But his treatment of political opponents and his nonsense like Lake America and 51st State are counterproductive and make America look churlish.
My biggest Trump criticism of his second term is the Big Beautiful Bill. Not its contents but the way it was produced and passed. This criticism is not as fun as calling Trump names for stupid stuff, nor would I call it part of his uncivilized nature. But I think it has done long term, and probably irreversible, damage to how Congress operates. I harshly criticized Obama, Pelosi, and Biden for the same legislative methods and now along comes Trump and further paralyzes Congress in partisanship with the same bs.
But like the American Democratic operative in the Canadian PM’s inner circle, most people don’t recognize the same problems that I do.
April 2023 is when China and Russia agreed to their joint Arctic adventurism. That is why we need ice breakers. The big difference between this agreement and the previous one is US exclusivity over who else is allowed in.
