Bascially a proof of life shot. Hilarious.LOL. Love the newspaper... to prove he's currently alive...
TBH, he looks like a kidnapping victim

except they forgot to have him hold up a current newspaper for proof of date lol
What was the date that allowed them to avoid putting in an interim Senator?
Senator Massie may still be a thing.

Kentucky politics are facinating to me. 2 of the most libertarian leaning legislators in Massie and Paul, a total swamp creature in McConnell and then there's Beshear who seems to be progressive or at least wants to do a little more than dabble in progressive issues.

My best guess (relatively uninformed, I admit), is that he is A) Alive B) Capable of following commands and C) not able to communicate effectively verbally.
I suspect that he is not able to operate effectively as a US senator anymore (and in fairness, there are several Senators right now that aren't much better). I suspect he can't speak and would probably have difficulty following a debate about policy. So he won't be "dead" in a few weeks, but the announcement will come out that he will have to stay in rehab throughout the rest of his term.

But I suppose we will find out, after the political gamesmanship date. I don't like it, it smells like Demoshit.

No, this is a pure McConnell political move. He may not be the one making the decisions about how to deal with this situation, but it's exactly what he would want.
My bet has always been a broken hip and a “none of your damn business” attitude about his health, as well as an understanding that the Dems would not be able to resist a strategy of “if Biden has to go, Mitch has to go.”
He has made a loooong career out of understanding the Constitution, Senate rules and politics much better than his opponents.

Seven weeks in the hospital for a broken hip? The only way that would be true would be if he broke it in such a horrific way that would have required traction / major surgery that required a half body cast. From the two pictures that have been released, that is obviously not an issue. Go ahead and plug into google "how many weeks do you typically stay in the hospital for a broken hip" and get back to me. I mean, the guy is older than dirt, so there is a bit of extra time that can be reasonably accounted for here, but seven weeks is pushing it well beyond the level of reasonable belief.
I absolutely agree that the guy should be allowed a certain amount of privacy, but at the same time there is a difference between personal privacy with regards to medical care and a medical condition that prevents you from doing your job. You can't just disappear from your job and when your boss calls you up to ask where you are, say "Bleep you! I've got a medical condition." If you are going to miss significant time from your job, you have to file a short-term disability form explaining your reasons. Otherwise, you get fired (justifiably).
