They don't send you to rehab after a stint in the hospital for a fall just as a precaution. He's there for either inpatient physical therapy (he's not able to move around independently) or inpatient speech therapy (his brain is messed up and he can't communicate properly). Either way, rehab means his health situation is such that he can't safely be at home, but not so acute that he needs to be in a hospital.
