Trump has a weird thing for Mamdani. Maybe it's Mamdani personally, maybe it's the office. Trump said earlier this year that he's always wanted to be Mayor of New York. Maybe it's an office he aspires to after the presidency. Crazy, I know, but we're talking Trump.
Regarding Mamdani personally, he's blasted him in social media as a "100% Communist Lunatic!" but he sucks up to him when he's in his company. He's referred to Mamdani as "good-looking" and "handsome," and has commented, in his presence, that Mamdani has the "potential to be great."
Of course, Trump likes socialist and Communist leaders. He'll be rolling out the red carpet and lavishing praise on the world's most powerful Communist (who supports America's enemies) later this week.
Mamdani also succeeded in getting rent freezes approved.

That's hugely impactful. NYC reeks on garbage collection days in the summer and early fall and this new process, once it's fully implemented, should put an end to that or at least lessen the stench. It will also reduce the chances of having to share train platforms, after rush hour, with giant rats.
