Are you in favor of eliminating any of the mandates or you think all should be mandatory?

harvard md ph.d. NYU prof. Tenured at ucla. They drip with disdain and slavery.
I was skeptical of Covid vaccines and after the first round that was it for me. No more. And I sure as fck didn’t want old brain dead Biden mandating anything. Polio. Measles. Decades and decades of history and data and the benefits of these vaccines. Unless there’s more to the story dumb not to keep these in schools and others as they’re trying to figure out whatever it is they’re trying to figure out.
incidentally this guy hates gender-affirming care but he’s a lesson. His credentials are as good as it gets. So when the woke loons were crying if minors want puberty blockers etc they should trust the doctors. As I have said repeatedly there are crazy doctors too. Highly credentialed crazy doctors. Like this one. Think. For. Yourself

Any vaccine that is used to keep a deadly disease at bay should be mandated.
And any vaccine that is safe but not as urgent, should be available to all and not just those over 65 or people seen as at risk.

don't worry, you're already brain dead. what could a vaccine do to you?
@mcm666 Tricky one... if we were a society that had any consideration for others, like we used to... I'd be more on board with not mandating vaccines for certain types of diseases.
But many of the same people that scream the hardest against vaccines, also screamed against masks, disregarded common sense steps like staying the F away from others when they had symptoms, etc...
I do NOT like forcing people to put things in their body, that they don't want to put in their body. But I dislike the lockdowns, the crap that ended up going on in schools, etc... much more than I dislike forcing certain types of vaccines for certain types of diseases.
I don't know what the end result would have been for the Covid outbreak, had we not done all the things we did...but many, many more millions of people would have died.

My body my choice?
@iunorth Covid became politicized just like vax. The issue you run into with personal choice I believe is that efficacy of some of these vax etc are predicated on a certain opt in. Lose that threshold and we run into problems. Having schools mandate known effective vax has been a nice tacit way to ensure a sufficient opt in. Left to our own lazy ways and who knows who will participate

I have no issue with people having a choice in what they do. There are also distinct differences between vaccines like MMR and Covid / Influenza. However, the biggest issue I have is that parents are making the choice and its affecting their kids, who do not have a say (for obvious reasons).
So when there's a Measles outbreak that was entirely preventable, I think the parents should be charged with child abuse.
@jdb A lot of variables, lots of different types of diseases, different types of vaccines, to consider.
I still think the core problem we have right now, is consideration for others. It was VERY, VERY common during the Covid outbreak to hear people rag on others for being out in public with coughs and such...but be indignant as hell when anyone tried to tell them specifically what they could, and should do when they themselves were coughing and sneezing.
When leaders are faced with that reality... and a disease that WAS KILLING, or making very sick, healthy people. Do they just let it happen?
I don't know the answer to this... but do Asian nations like Japan, where mask wearing is much more broadly accepted... do they mandate vaccines? Or do they just trust the consideration of others that's still built in to their society (that used to be a hallmark of our own society), and trust that they'll be able to manage outbreaks without vaccines?

The mandates are not mandates. They are tied to school attendance, and I believe all states have opt outs for various reasons. And this isn’t a political thing. In Colorado, deep blue Boulder county had the lowest vaccine rates.
If we are to really gonna have vaccine mandates should we require vaccinations for all public licenses and benefits? No social security unless vaccinated. No Medicaid. No license to practice law. No CC permits. No driver’s licenses. And on and on.
I don’t think anybody would favor those mandates. So what are we really talking about when we say vaccines should be mandated?
My first point is that we protect ourselves. That means we make our own decisions about disease protection. When I was a kid, measles, mumps etc. were normal and we survived. Polio vaccine came along and I frankly don’t know if that was mandated or not, but every kid got it. In school we had TB checks, ringworm checks, we don’t do that any more.
If a certain vaccine were to be of such a public benefit that we would save healthcare dollars with that immunization, I’ll consider that argument, but in that event, the mandates should reach more than kids.
@carramrod In general, before Obama came on to the scene. But the thoughts in my mind when I typed it were more centered on the sacrifices our society made for each other during WW2.
Major events like wars, pandemics, financial crisis, are ALWAYS going to bring political back and forth. But in general, as a nation, we moved forward together during these times. Vietnam might be an example otherwise... But since Obama came to office, basically every single crisis we've faced, one side of the aisle has dug in and metaphorically "taken their ball and went home". I think that's a new overall phenomena. And Covid is a pretty glaring example of it.
@co-hoosier it is mandated to get to herd immunity. Yes, someone with "great genes" probably will get through measles with no problem. That isn't true for everyone. It just seems to be the only ones some care about.
We were so close to considering measles eradicated. So close.
Yes, Aloha will agree with me here, antivaxx was a predominantly a moonbat issue. Once the wing nuts decided to jump in the idea of herd immunity was gone. But that can explain Boulder.
I guess we should give up on herd immunity, as one Republican said, "we are all going to die anyway." No need to try and fight it. If someone has a child with a severe auto immune disorder, or undergoing chemo, we can assume they have a duty to die or live like bubble boy.
