If her primary residence is in Maryland as she claimed then she’s not allowed to be the NY AG.
You know Norfolk is in VA, right?
This is delicious. I know it's not exactly the same, but it's close enough that I think the people who whined about them going after Trump for fraud have no room to cheer here, and the people who cheered that Trump was being held accountable have no room to dismiss this as merely a political prosecution. Everyone take your medicine on this one.
I thought the Trump nonsense was wholly politically motivated and don't believe for a second this isn't anything but the same. I agree with this take and am enjoying the irony from both sides.

I'll give Trump credit, after what he went through last year, using "mortgage fraud" as his primary retaliatory weapon has got to be really really satisfying.
Is she guilty yes or no? I've yet to see one person defend her on the merits.

As Mark said, she was originally charged based on supposed evidence that she falsely claimed that a home she was purchasing would be her primary residence, when it was really a second home.
If you have every bought a home you recall signing a stack of papers for an hour. Many seemingly redundant. Here. that paperwork, in total, was later produced, showing that in that stack of papers time after time after time she checked the box that it was a second home. On one page, however, the wrong box was checked and that page indicated it was a primary home. My understanding is the DOJ now knows that this charge will not stick, because in totality it was clear that she was calling it a second home and getting a loan on that basis.
What to do, what to do, since Donald demands that we do something? Find a new charge! The new charge is that it wasn't a 2nd home at all that she was buying for her own use, but it was rather a rental property.
If you want to allege that renting out your second home is mortgage fraud, go right ahead. It seems fairly trivial and even against common sense.
I live in a county with the highest percentage of 2nd homes of any place in the USA (Palm Beach County, FL). It is fairly standard practice for the people who have a second home here, a home that they occupy Thanksgiving through Easter, to rent out that home during the period that they are away. Go on airbnb and VRBO and practically every listing is exactly that. She probably will get a judge with a 2nd home who does the same thing.

@co-hoosier It would seem it is a Federal issue if the lender is federally insured. The FBI investigated 3600 cases last year according to this article.
She bought the house for her niece, who lives there rent free.

Depreciation? On a house? How does that even work?
