The article you posted didn't show he is profitable. It's just an anonymous source claiming it. To be clear, if he is profitable and the best option for the their business they should keep him. I personally don't think it is, but I don't work for them or know the numbers. It does seem to be a dying industry.
Not being an expert on the industry myself, I hesitate to state an opinion too strongly, but I admit that I suspect the traditional late-night talk model will not survive in the long run. I think networks can and will find other more profitable models for late-night television.
But the numbers that are available do at least seem to back up the thinking that Kimmel is relatively profitable within that limited scope. I bet his show makes way more money than Colbert, for example. The demographics just demand that ABC can make more from advertising than CBS can. And NBC is an also-ran in every category.

@oneeyedundertaker I know that. How many times are they going to try to kill him. From Kathy Griffin holding his head to Jimmy Kimmel to the endless assassination attempts. But what can we do but try to teach them. To show them the moral high ground. To help them understand their divisive inciteful rhetoric about Nazis and Fascism has consequences. They are crazy people. And that rhetoric emboldens them. Maybe they're Greys? Maybe that will be the disclosure. Personally I will do what I always do. Turn my cheek.
