Trump called the joke "far beyond the pale."  Trump calling anything beyond the pale? Now that's funny.

Should Kimmel be fired for this?  Why or why not?

@big-ryan He's an incredibly angry, bitter guy.  Just a miserable, miserable dude.  The embodiment of the worst of Hollywood.  It's funny how Carolla is the polar opposite and just normal, talking about normal stuff, doing normal stuff.  Still funny.  That rage Kimmel has was behind the joke.  It was in terrible taste.  But he should not be fired nor should he be canceled.

Bad timing. No one batted an eye until the shooting happened two days later. It's all Kimmel's fault.

Did anyone really take Kimmel's joke as a call to violence?  The most logical association would be with Trump passing of natural causes, an expectation not all that odd given his age, diet, episodes reflective of advancing dementia, his blue hands, his swollen ankles, his secret MRIs for no stated reason, even his regularly tests for cognitive function that he is so proud of scoring so well on (with questions like telling whether a silhouette is a picture of a cat or a horse). Just listen to him speak, now vs. 10 years ago.  He is losing it mentally, and that often goes with losing it physically.

@shooter Your premise is flawed from the start.  It wasn't a joke.  Kimmel doesn't make jokes.  It's pure malice.  He knows what he was doing, particularly in light of his Kirk comments that gave rise to his suspension.  Kimmel is every bit as awful as Trump is as tehy're cut from the same mold.  Still doesn't deserve to be canceled or fired

Are you asking if ABC should be forced to fire him?  Or should they personally choose to fire him?

No, ABC should not be forced to fire him.  If I was running ABC, I would fire him because I think he's bad for business.  I don't think it matters long term because media will just continue to decentralize.

It's a joke that wasn't even a new joke.

Here's the same idea from years ago

@shooter No he'sgot horrific TDS.  Trump has ruined Kimmel's tiny brain.  When a "joke" is fueled by malice it's no longer a joke.  That said it's constitutionally protected, not a threat/hate etc., so there's nothing Trump can do.  Pressuring license isn't something we want our gov doing and probably would also be unlawful. They have a duty to contemplate the public interest but again it doesn't arise to that level imo. Decades ago when the airwaves were limited greater regulation was necessary.  Now for every jimmy kimmel torching trump there's an elon musk a joe rogan and plenty of platforms to balance things out.

Kimmel has been showing the most growth over the past year among late night shows, and despite still not catching Colbert in overall viewers, he's long been #1 in the demo. He's objectively not bad for business.

Your point is well-taken.  The joke was Thursday night, and not a word from MAGA on Friday or Saturday.

Trump World can spin it as a call for violence but it's just as plausible, if not more so, that Kimmel was talking about natural causes. The man is 80, significantly overweight, and lives on fast food and chemicals in Coke cans.  What's his life expectancy?  Five more years?  Seven, if he's lucky?

Kimmel won't be canned.

@goat Ratings don't equate to profit.  How much does he cost, production, etc. versus revenue from sponsors etc.  They might net more running endless episodes of ridiculousness

I suspect profits from late night shows are declining across the board, but people looked into this during the Kirk thing, and it was generally agreed that Kimmel is a very profitable asset for ABC.

I bet most of that is still true.
