I've asked this question many, many times, but have never gotten an adequate answer: If liberals are just so goddamn awful, why can't conservatives attack us without lying about what we say? It shouldn't be that hard to just be honest, if we're really that bad.

I 100 percent agree with this. Liberals are awful, generally, and there is no need to lie to accurately criticize them. That MAGA routinely lies in their criticism of liberals is reason number eleventy-nine why I cannot be a MAGA Republican.

Unless its about COVID.  Then have the government force social media to censor dissent, now known as the truth.

Kimmel is not funny. He hasn't been since the Man Show. Ratings sucked. This just gives ABC an out to end the show earlier than what they probably were intending to do. He should have done jokes about executing homeless people. That would have saved him.

@bradstevens there is no other connection from that quote

And it's part of a concerted effort that took place that led Mr. Highlife, for example, to say "it's becoming clear" that the dude was a groyper.  He played right into that false narrative.  Will the people who peddled it ever be held to account?  Nope.

You can whattabout all day long about the other side that isn't held to account but if you don't police your own, no one else will, and that makes those people the equivalent of those they despise.

Because the right polices their own....at all?

Dbm was on here claiming the killer was a liberal before we even knew who did it.

The bigger story is Trump trying to take away free speech for liberals by using anything at his disposal.  Want a gov to approve a merger?  Than you better silence liberals.

And Trumpers cheer.  F the constitution, it is just about their side winning

Because media and politicians go hand in hand.  Both sides lie and embellish to the bigger the lie, the more they get noticed and rewarded.  Look at Adam Schiff.  Made up lie after lie after lie about Russiagate.  Now he's a Senator.  Crockett figured out the playbook real early and adds race baiting into it.

Pubs are just as bad with Cruz, Jordan, and the master, Lindsey Graham.

Kimmel was just supplying misinformation to divide us.  Anyone with half a brain could reasonably come to the conclusion it was not a MAGA shooter.

@ribbont it is a weird play. It’s a late night talk show and they basically decided let’s let shooter or hickory be the host and just trash the group more than half the country supported. And jackoffs like Kimmel and the other idiot act like they’re entitled to the job.  Like they’re doing a public service.  Bizarre people

If I’m being pedantic, he didn’t say it was a right winger who did this. He said right wingers were frantically trying to convince themselves that it was a left winger who did this.

Which is true.

Even if it turned out to be true.

That said, it was Nexstar that originally said they weren’t going to air Kimmel anymore. I’m guessing ABC figured they wouldn’t be the only ones so they acted.

From AP:

During his Monday evening monologue, Kimmel suggested Kirk’s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, might have been a pro-Trump Republican. “The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said

nobody is spinning it as anything more than it is. Kimmel was being an insensitive prick after years of crying over woke causes. He could have said many other things that may have upset people but not caused such a backlash.

Schiff didn’t investigate “Russiagate,” his committee investigated J6 and the attempt to overturn the 2020 election. A Republican-led Senate committee investigated “Russiagate” and found that the Russian government did indeed attempt to influence the 2016 election in favor of Trump, but didn’t collaborate with the Trump campaign to do so.

Kimmel was definitely being an assholish prick. My guess is he thought he left himself just enough leeway with that statement that he’d get away with it.

But, as others have noted, his show is losing to shamwow infomercials in ratings so he was wrong.

And nothing of value was lost.

That's not being pedantic. It's being correct. He didn't say what he's accused of saying.

Did he say this:

"The MAGA Gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them"

As far as I know, yes, he did. And I'm not surprised he took heat for it. Personally, I think he's right, but that doesn't make it appropriate to notice out loud at this point in time. But that's hardly the issue we're discussing here, is it? We're discussing whether or not he claimed Kirk's killer was a right-winger. Which he didn't.

He strongly implied it.

To be fair, when has strongly applied mattered in our recent history?

Aren't we told all the time that's not what A and or B meant, he really meant C?

He wasn't just fired for what he said about Charlie.  It's been a long list of things for a while.  He's not funny, his ratings are terrible, and he's a major league asshole.  It's shocking he lasted this long.

@hurryinghoosiers give me the link with direct proof that The Trump Administration is withholding merger approval until Kimmel is fired.

From AI

In the United States, television networks and stations are obligated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to serve the "public interest, convenience, and necessity" in exchange for their use of public airwaves. This mandate was established by the Communications Act of 1934 and is the foundational principle for broadcast licensing.

How does Jimmy Kimmel fit?
