Word is Burns couldn’t refrain from injecting his shitty racial politics into episode two. Episode is getting panned. I haven’t seen it myself, but that would track.
I watched him give the commencement address at UPenn a few years ago and the whole thing was “Ben Franklin’s infidelity this, founders racism that”.
But he made sure to let the graduates know they were all brave for surviving covid. Aka, sitting at home and doing zoom school in their sweats.
Guy actually used to be a halfway decent documentarian too. Tragic.
I already saw the "Cliff's Notes" version...
Some of the best SNL skits in a while. PG and hilarious at the same time.

So he tells the truth even when knowing some people won't like it. Sounds like he did a great job. Shouldn't sugar coat anything just to avoid making people upset

Im halfway through the first episode and almost gave up because of the constant jabs around minorities and women. Yea, we get it, shit wasn’t great when you look back 300 years later, but let’s stick to the main issues and not try and make everything into victimization
You guys are too sensitive. He's making natives and blacks a part of the story. That's it. He's not changing the narrative into the 1619 project.

It is a documentary about the US, ALL of the US. Not just, "rah rah, go White men." That would be called propaganda. I thought episode 1 was excellent.
It was excellent. I don’t get the consternation a few seem to be having with it.Word is Burns couldn’t refrain from injecting his shitty racial politics into episode two. Episode is getting panned. I haven’t seen it myself, but that would track.

I’m not asking for it to be solely focused on white people. I’m asking for not everything to be focused on race, in general.
the best point I heard so far was around the Caribbean profitability given the predominant slave to non-slave ratio. It makes a lot of sense if you think about it from an economics perspective related to England.

He is telling the story of America's beginning. If he doesn't discuss Blacks, Natives, women, it is the story of White Americans. If he mentions those groups it is going to have to focus on how their experience is different or why mention them? He also discusses Whites who want to stay British as that is also part of the Revolution.
I personally want it to be the story of all of us. I want to know about the 20,000 slaves that signed up to fight for the lobster backs.

Sorry Marv but the story of America's beginning is a story about the actions of White men.

So no Blacks, Natives, or women lived in the 13 colonies? I believe they did and whatever happened to them is as real as P Revere, G Washington, or T Jefferson. It is the story of us, all of us.
That would also include White men who were loyalists.

And those actions weren't in vacuum. The white man enslaved...well the snowflakes won't let us mention who they enslaved...

they just want the whitewashed story of how the white people sat around the campfire singing nice Christian songs without a care in the world and without harming anyone. The settlers apparently found a completely empty continent without anyone here and they lived off the land and prospered. They were so Christian that they never did anything wrong nor anything immoral. It was an awesome time with everyone being white and awesome. Those were the days. (sarcasm)
It's too bad Burns is actually telling the true story as best he can.

Is it the "Story of Us" or the Story of the American Revolution? I haven't seen it yet so I hesitate to opine much on the content. I will offer a more detailed review when I have.
But I have seen Burns speak a lot in recent years and he has become much more race-centric. Would you say the series thus far is more or less race conscious that his Civil War series? I would hope far less given the subject matter, but the Civil War series focused heavily on the military campaign and little time dwelling on the horrors of slavery.
