AcreTrader is basically venture capitalist for farmland. I have no idea if it is good or bad, but it appears buying distressed land is at least part of what they do. The Walton family appears to own a lot of it.

More broadly, it democratizes farmland investment and offers farmers access to needed capital. I could go invest in a piece of land today, which is pretty awesome. There's nothing to support the idea that they specialize in distressed farmland.
None of this touches on the fact that JD's investment is pennies and hardly enough to make him rich off of purposely tanking farm prices. Which is a nutjob accusation.
