The state ones were partisan. Smith's weren't.

Are you kidding?  Garland appointed smith because Smith was a known highly partisan leftist.  Smith was never intended to be an objective unbiased prosecutor.  But Garland fucked it up as Cannon said.

Just flat out wrong. He was chosen because he had a straight shooting nonpartisan reputation.

Cannon didn’t even pretend to play it straight. She proved to be an extreme partisan. There’s a reason Trump absolutely loves her. Your opinion on her is another wild outlier.

Trump refusing to return highly classified documents forced his hand and he appointed Smith for that.

It is amazing how stealing Top Secret, and beyond, documents, refusing to return them has become the definition of "partisan prosection."

The MAGA “lock her up” crowd’s position on that case is pure hypocrisy.

@aloha-hoosier

There were plenty of non-partisan prosecutors who also meet statutory requirements.  Garland ignored those and hand-picked smith not because smith is nonpartisan.

Nope.  Smith being improperly appointed has zip to do with the merits.

“Pure Hypocrisy?”  I don’t think so.  Trump had the presidential records act.  Different analysis.

@arthur-dent no that’s the point @squeakyclean they pissed around and wanted to time it closer to the election. A straight up prosecutor and a straight up prosecution without partisanship and Trump would likely have been convicted

@co-hoosier absolutely 100 percent pure hypocrisy. You don’t know that act DOES NOT allow him to have classified documents.

Do you really buy smith’s argument that the reason he didn’t notify the members about his planned seizure was because he thought the members would destroy the records?  Records that were not even in their custody? Electronic records that were sent to different servers and couldn’t then be deleted anyway?

@aloha-hoosier you still don’t understand how anyone can say and present anything when there’s no one there to counter.  The court cases are what matter. The rest is nonsense

The "Dems are controlled by extreme radicals/Commies/anti-capitalist revolutionaries" narrative is clearly not working, but Mike "No Balls" Johnson and his do-nothing-except-prop-Trump-up Congress have nothing else to run on.

To that point, there is an attack ad Jon Husted is running against Sherrod Brown non-stop here in Ohio that features a trans woman saying that after a 20 minute consult when she was an 11 year old boy, it was decided that she would immediately start transitioning. The ad claims Sherrod Brown is for transgender surgeries for kids and said transgender woman says you shouldn't support Brown because of it.

Two problems with that ad. 1) it's already illegal to perform transgender surgeries on minors in Ohio and the transgender woman in the ad is from Texas. On top of all that, Brown isn't running on overturning any state or federal laws on that issue.

It's a scare tactic that obviously must work to some degree, but it's stupid and a diversion from real issues Republicans can't run on.

Of course not.  But classified documents need to be first established.  Any president has arguments available that no other official has.  It’s not 100% pure hypocrisy to point that out. As usual you overstate everything concerning Trump.
