I know they play WKU which is why I listed them.  Seems like they play every year.  Is there a rivalry between the 2 that I am unaware exists.

There’s going to be a 60-team CFP league in a few years anyway, so we’ll only be playing 12 of the other 59 every year.

When the CFP inevitably gets expanded, which I personally hate, there may be more willingness. But seeding will still matter, and I could see the first time a three-loss Texas has to play UGA on the road in its first game decide not to schedule any more tough games.

I want the season to be fun and important, just like bowls used to be. We've already lost the latter and the former is slipping away outside of conference play.

Not that I'm aware of.

For the record, I agree with you that we should schedule a game every year like you're wanting.  We're always going to get a FBS game, those aren't going away.

The 3rd game I'm good with a highly level g6 school (which I think North Texas is).  Like JBD said, this is all about seeding, not just getting in.

I think it's a close-proximity program that IU can still expect to beat, although historically it was a lot closer. Most other non-conference options (UL, Cincy, UK) frightened IU football for a long time and were likely losses.

I'd be happy with, every year in OOC

1) one MAC team

2) one other local-ish team, perhaps among UK, UL, Cincinnati

3) one other team who, while not always a powerhouse, can occasionally contend (think of the level of a Colorado St., Boston College, Syracuse, NC State, Kansas, etc.).  That one might need to be a home-and-home, or a 2-for-1 home/away. Same for UK, UL, UC...

A glance at the AP Top 10 and every team has played or will play another P4 team in non conference, except one.

Can anyone guess what the one is?

You want to schedule like cowards. Fine. Spare us the “every team does it” bullshit please.

No one who knows anything about college football gives a shit about that uninteresting fact.  It's inconsequential.

If Texas hadn't played Ohio State OOC last season, they would have played in the CFP.  That's not just me talking.  Sark said it.

A glance at the Top 10 reflects that one team is the defending national champion.  And that team will be vying for another one, and another one after that, as long as Cig - - the best college football coach in the country - - is at the helm.

I want to win championships. In Cig I Trust. You, on the other hand, can continue to lose what little credibility you have by questioning the strategy of the best college coach in the game.

Sark said it? The coach of UT was complaining and making justifications after  they got left out? How is that credible supporting evidence, shit for brains? I’m glad you addressed me directly though after your cunty “some posters” crap before.

Maybe that spot goes to Notre Dame or BYU. You don’t know. So shut the fuck up.

Playing Notre Dame is what got Miami into the playoff last year. So your shit for brains argumentation works both ways.

I know more about college football than you, like I know more about everything than you because you’re fucking retarded.

It has nothing to do with Sark and everything to do with that dreaded third loss. A two loss Texas gets in. A three loss Texas didn't get in, despite losing to a Top 3 (ranking at the time) team.

I don't think Texas will ever stop trying to schedule big non-conference games.  The atmosphere around the game and city was incredible for the fans and 5 days later it still is. I don't know that 2 loss Texas team last year makes it as long as that Florida loss is on the resume. Florida lost 8 games last year then Texas followed it up with OT wins vs Miss. St and UK where they probably should of lost one of those.  They were totally blown out by Georgia. They only played well in the rivalry games vs OU and Tx A&M. I'd like to give the committee some credit for just looking past number of losses.  All coaches complain when their teams are left out.

My opinion is these big non-conf games are just really good for the fans having these games on campus. I don't thnk the coach is trying to dodge anyone.  It's only his 3rd year and a lot of the big programs probably didn't see the point of playing IU except those in conference.  It's just different now with the emergence of the program.

I don't disagree with you about the benefits for campus and the excitement. But, I also have a hard time going against Cig's strategy until proven otherwise. I think the downside of an early season loss can be overcome, but it's also harder to build momentum and progress the way Cig likes to. Our first game was always rough and we got better each game until conference the past two years. If you lose to ND in Week 1 or 2, do you also lose momentum and the building process?

Either way, it would be much more fun to play big teams. It's also expensive af. Shit, the amount we spent on going to the UNT game this year was no small number, but it would have tripled or more against a big name team.
