Honestly, I'd never heard of it as antisemitic either, so I don't think it's as common as you think.  Not saying it isn't true, but I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Seriously? You guys can't be serious. This is very well known. I know I pushed back against Brad before by pointing out that there could be valid reasons to think that Israel had too much influence in our politics, but pretending you don't know about one of the most common antisemitic tropes in the modern world? C'mon.

Jewish organizations call everything and everyone anti-semitic to the point of meaninglessness nowadays.

Agreed.

Antisemitism is disgusting and, unfortunately, it's on the rise.  However, the term is sometimes used indiscriminately by those in the Israeli government, including Netanyahu himself, as a catch-all for, and a shield against, criticism of the government and/or Netanyahu himself. For example, the ICC issued arrest warrants against Netanyahu for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.  (The allegations include restricting aid, food and fuel, and directing attacks against civilians). The government called the charges, among other things, "antisemitic."  That's bullshit.

I wasn't aware that puppet references were antisemitic. How about we just say that Trump is Bibi's bitch?

I also know nothing of the puppet master "trope".

Some people just try to put the most nasty spin on what others post.

Fact: Trump listens to and follows Bibi's wishes. I meant to imply nothing more.

You can make your points without constantly referencing antisemitic tropes.  Trump has had a hard on for Iran for decades.  He’s not Netenyahu’s puppet.

Being critical of Bibi and the Israeli government's policies is not an antisemetic trope.

I fully agree that criticism of Netanyahu's policies is not, by itself, antisemitic.  Throwing in the word puppet, though, could be construed as such because of the centuries-old "puppet master" trope which suggests Jews control the world.

Instead of saying Trump is Netanyahu's puppet, I might go with "tool" or "instrument," or skip the label and just say that Netanyahu forced Trump's hand in starting the war.  That's how Rubio described it, in so many words, and Rubio should know.  He also has credibility, at least relative to the other clowns in the Cabinet.

There's little doubt that Netanyahu exerted significant influence on Trump regarding the decision to go to war with Iran.  Netanyahu reportedly presented a compelling case to Trump in the Situation Room in early February which convinced Trump to take an aggressive stance, notwithstanding warnings from some of Trump's own advisors that Netanyahu was "overselling" the situation. The hard sell, which no doubt was replete with lavish praise and ass-kissing, clearly worked. Netanyahu was successful in securing US backing for a comprehensive attack against Iran and, wow, is he making the most of it.

Calling someone a puppet in this instance is a common enough term that I don't think it is fair to assume antisemitic intention.

Not everyone is thinking about what words have a history outside of their general meaning or even are aware of them all.

Calling someone antisemitic should have a higher bar than that

I haven't called Shooter or anyone else antisemitic.  I simply said the "puppet" description could be construed as antisemitic after BS initially brought up the trope.

I know it was brad that made the accusation.  I was just quoting your post given it was talking about "puppet" and using less charged terms instead.

I wouldn't have thought twice about using the word puppet when someone gets Trump to do their bidding.  The word puppet had been used when Putin had influence over Trump as well (and Putin isn't a Jew to my knowledge).  The word in this instance likely had nothing to do with Bibi being a Jew. brad likely knew that when he threw out the accusation but likely did so because he didn't like the post/poster and he thought that was his best course of action.

I had heard about people falsely accusing Jews of being puppet masters behind the scenes.  I didn't realize using the word "puppet" in any and all instances (even when a legit accusation) was considered antisemitic.

Much better post in UncleMark’s Flooding the zone thread. Let’s try to keep the Iran War thread in topic.

Agree to “walk” away from peace negotiations? This could be the fastest path to a solution. Openly tell Iran we tried but it’s too soon so we going to destroy more of your military capabilities and then see if you’re willing to talk. Rinse and repeat. Reach and withdraw. Psychologically heightens the anticipation, hope, tension and other factors more with each iteration.

The shorter the time interval, the sooner the final resolution.

What happened to "unconditional surrender?" Regime change?  Getting to the enriched uranium?

Trump's War has made the regime substantially richer.  By leveraging its position and avoiding major infrastructure damage, Iran has maintained high-volume exports while competitors faced disruptions, allowing its largely Chinese-bought crude to command much higher prices. Iran's surging oil revenue, courtesy of Trump, has already exceeded the $1.7 billion that Obama paid them as part of the 2016 deal.  Iran is also collecting some additional pocket change - - up to $2 million in tolls for each tanker that Iran allows to pass through the Strait, and this is likely to continue as Strait traffic starts moving again.  As of today, though, the Strait is mostly closed, while it was wide open before the war.

That Trump.  He's a master chess player.

What some apparently don't understand about the $1.7 billion from Obama was that it was returning Iran's cash to them that we had stolen back in the 1970s when they bought arms that were never delivered due to the revolution in 1979. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/obama-administration-acknowledges-1-7-billion-transfer-to-iran-was-all-cash/

The criticizing of obama about the money was never really about the money but about the politics.  If it was a republican that had done it, then we wouldn't be hearing anything from them.   This is now proven given the lack of complaining about the money Trump is wasting on Iran and the financial boon he has given to Iran now that they get to charge ships for using the strait.
