The basic problem with his entire argument is that it counterbalances his purportedly nuanced and thorough position with stupid, oversimplified straw man positions, as if the only analysts he reads are ignorant children.

The problem with this concept is that this implies that Iran has the power to close the strait whenever they want.
That is simply not true.
To put it bluntly, they got lucky in this case. Trump does not want to put boots on the ground and wants to avoid a prolonged war as much as possible. In future "wars" the next leader that Iran pisses off by closing the strait on a whim is not going to have that kind of constraint and might be perfectly willing to send in a million troops to mow down anybody (civilian or military) that gets in the way.
