What a ridiculous take.

If you (or "American Misfit") hate Colbert because of his politics, I get it.  But anyone who says he has no talent, or is unfunny or that he killed The Late Show (lol) has no idea what they're talking about.

Colbert is multi-talented.  He's a Second City alum, a master of improv and a skilled actor. He won multiple Peabody Awards and Emmys for the "The Colbert Report" and he's done musical theater, including a show at Avery Fisher Hall.

Colbert's criticism of Paramount's $16 million settlement with Trump (calling it a "big fat bribe," followed by the Late Show cancellation announcement three days later) accelerated the end of his show, but its cancellation was inevitable because the late night talk show is an outdated, no-longer-profitable format.  The shows cost a fortune to produce at a time when network TV viewership is declining across the board.  No one under 50 has a cable subscription anymore.  It's a streaming world now.

CBS's 11:35p slot will now be filled by Byron Allen's comics. Allen, a billionaire, is paying CBS for the time slot and keeps the ad revenue.  A win-win for Allen and the network.

I think it's a near certainty that The Tonight Show and ABC's equivalent won't continue once Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel's runs end in the next few years.  Again, it's a dying format.

The Colbert Report was nothing like what just signed off for the final time.  You can't compare the two.  One was a success that was genuinely funny.  The other was just a shill for progressive left politics.

I'm not comparing them.  They were entirely different shows that showcased different talents.  I mentioned the awards for The Colbert Report, but he also won a Peabody Award and two Emmys for the Late Show, and will probably win another for the finale which was quirky and clever.

If you like Trump, you hate Colbert and The Late Show and can't find the humor or talent if you're even looking for it. Wild guess here, but I doubt you've ever seen more than 15 minutes of the show.

Have a good weekend.

Are you hitting up any senior citizen discounts this holiday weekend?  Maybe an early dinner at Perkins.

You nailed it, despite the Bowl protests. I was a big fan of Colbert's schtick during his time on The Daily Show and his own Colbert Report. Watched both several times a week for over a decade. I didn't have to agree with their politics to watch them, appreciate their talent and enjoy the product. Lampooning and satire done well supersedes my political leanings. Nothing Colbert has done with the Late Show comes anywhere close.

The Late Show under Colbert became a progressive political passion play that subsequently lost the target late night demographic the show had prior.

@all4you as hooky said colbert is just a whiny progressive effiminate shill like kimmel now.  F both of em.  Give their air time to the Renegade or old episodes of baywatch.  probably get similar ratings.  put those two on msnbc or the view

Or you could not like either one.  It reaches a point where the politics overwhelm everything else and you just don't watch it I'm not up late to watch political commentary. It's why I stopped watching Letterman at the end.

I used to watch The Daily Show and thought Colbert was hilarious.  The Report was funny, because the charactre was funny.  Turned out the real Colbert was kind of an insufferable prick at times and I wasn't going to waste time on it.

Yeah, but this is more of an "on demand" situation vs. regularly scheduled programming.
