The FED is behind the curve again if you think the economy is dead.  You're not getting inflation in a deflationary bust (certainly not in the short term).

Even if the layoffs are not necessarily AI related (though tech hiring is lower, but that could be do to lower capital investments in traditional non AI sectors), I remind everyone ChatGPT and the like are less than 4 years old.

Say hello to 20% unemployement in five years. Ten tops.

@larsiu And a reshaping of "Hot" industries.  Industries in tech etc. that to many sound absolutely miserable.

I'm just having some fun. It's one report.  I don't think the economy is falling off the cliff this year.

@snarlcakes 🤣 Anyone with a functioning brain not ate up by TDS knows Trump has been light years better than Biden and his crew of radical leftists however I have not seen these price drops anywhere. Everything looks expensive as hell to me.  Wages will have to go up a ton. Are they?

your non-functioning brain is definitely ate up by TDS 😉

Oh I think the economy will be fine. the labor markets, not so much. Wages will tank as well. The K shape will just expand.

@larsiu have you seen what Anthropic has done this week?

There ain't a future for a coders. They have shown they can do in about 3 weeks what high expertise coders would have taken a year to accomplish.

10 years from now going to be hard to see any white collar job safe. How we handle that is going to be brutal choices.

mgmt too. Even c-suite.

once AGI is achieved the changes seen in the Indistrial Revolution that took two or three generations to solve will occur in a decade.

I don’t see a way around UBI or some kind of nationalization like the petro states.  I have no idea how that road will be traveled in western democracies.

It's not brutal at all.  Get rid of the dumbest monetary system ever and change to a deflationary system.  Sorry, comrade but you guys always lose to free markets.

But what happens when the value of  labor in wide swaths of the economy fall to near zero? Not everybody can be a plumber, landscaper or electrician. And on that front, you think the immigration debate is bad today. holy shit 10 years from now.

I think one of the two below would happen depending on the speed of the deflation,

Scenario 1: People will just adjust like every other technological advancement period and do different jobs that don't exist yet.

Scenario 2: We switch to a deflationary system and the price of goods and services drop to 0 as well with labor.
