with pretty much nothing to do but watch tv the last 3 weeks I'm struck by how constantly they push these drug ads
just to name a few...
Bimzelix Benlysta Caplyta Zepbound Neffy Dovato Vabysmo Otezla Dupixent Rinvoq Cialis Lyrica Eliquis Viagra Humira Latuda Xeljanz Celebrex Abilify Chantix Ozempic Wegovy Rexulti Cosentyx Mavyret Xarelto Mounjaro, etc, etc.
I get promoting the boner pills but how many people come to the office and say " Hey Doc, I was watching tv and and I think I'd really like to try some of that Eliquis..."
Then when you ad in the side effects messages....
nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, dizziness, bleeding, abdominal pain, pancreatitis thyroid tumors, kidney problems, liver dysfunction, death, your dick may fall off, etc, etc.......
reportedly 10 billion spent in 2024
how times have changed
Maybe if we banned ads, prices would go down

What strikes me is how so many of these drugs treat stuff that I've never heard of.

I've always wondered how these companies' research budgets compare to their marketing budgets.
Nobody knows what the ads are about and Big Pharma could not care less. PHARMA'S $BILLIONS IN AD SPEND ARE DIRECT PAYOLA SO BIG MEDIA WILL COVER UP THEIR MURDEROUS BUSINESS MODEL.Maybe if we banned ads, prices would go down

good question. I asked ChatGpT and Grok and both indicated that R&D as a percentage of revenue is much higher than direct to consumer (DTC) costs. Apparently this wasn’t the case back in the 70s and 80s where pharma actually spent more on DTC than R&D.
That being said, the billions spent per year is still quite large and this article claims it hurts patients.
Where is @INRanger?

Why are you supporting a murderous business model?
