I apologize if this already exists in a thread.  Your welcome to point me to it.  This has been a topic in the local Indy news.  Lt. Gov, Micah Beckwith said in a town hall meeting detainees do not a have a right to due process in front of a judge.  He drew a comparison to the US response to bombing of Pearl Harbor in WWII.

Thoughts?

Sorry as this article is behind the Indy Star pay wall.

@oneeyedundertaker "If found to be here illegally" is due process.

Isn’t that happening?

@oneeyedundertaker not all criminals are held indefinitely until their trials.

They are if they are either a danger to society or a flight risk.  Would you suggest that someone that ignored our laws to get here in the first place isn’t a flight risk?

@oneeyedundertaker of course if they committed a severe enough crime they shouldn’t be released.

I suppose if I was an illegal and caught by ICE I’d be running or hiding too.

Being here illegally is severe enough.  It confirms their disregard for the laws of our land & a lack of respect for its citizens.  Your answer confirms why they should be detained.

Tons of stories of legal immigrants being held without even being asked about their status. Also stories of ACTUAL US CITIZENS being detained and held. Which is extremely illegal but ICE will never be held accountable.

So he is back in the US now, a free man?  Certainly unfortunate, but also happens in our criminal justice system for any & all forms of crime, no?  Have you protested any of the folks from Jan 6 who were imprisoned for months without trial only to be released, or is it the location of the prison that you take issue with?

Nope, not once, nor have the majority of the people protesting the ICE raids.  This is yet another example of a large chunk of those protesting doing so for who is doing it more than than what is being done, along with the people who have no allegiance to the US waving the flags of other countries.

Someone good with AI needs to put together a collection of Beckwith clips with Stewie Griffin's voice.
