Functionally, tariffs are insane unless applied sparingly and only for long periods of time. Any extraneous measure that forces businesses and institutions to change something unrelated to their business should be a last resort.And tariffs suck because Trump didn't cut income taxes.

I agree the opposition usually pick up seats. However, it's usually not to the degree that Obama lost seats. Why would you put more weight on a generic poll that means nothing compared to how people actually voted?
Obama also had to preside over the worst economic conditions this country had seen in nearly a century. That might have had a bit to do with their voting patterns. Most of those 70 seats came in 2010 before things started turning around.

That's probably much of it but he also inherited -- and continued with -- the "too big to fail" approach from Bush, and seeing the bankers and lenders get off Scot-free after they crashed the economy infuriated many.
As far as the original post goes, none of it is possible with simply a House majority. Even Trump with his control of both houses can't get anything done legislatively except through budget reconciliation, and what they can do even with that workaround is limited.
The best we can hope for is muddling through until January of 29 and hope we have something left to repair when Trump is out of power. I'm not optimistic. I'll be dead before we recover from this madness.
