And when the issue is trying to close the gap that leads to political violence,
I don’t believe that strong differences of opinions necessarily leads to political violence. The problem is that people don’t know how to disagree. Nor can they cope with disagreement. And yeah, I will say this is a left problem. The data show that those on the left are more willing to break up families, end friendships, terminate relationships, and react with uncontrolled emotions than those on the right because of political disagreements.
We can do better. This is one reason why I enthusiastically support the ethics bowl @bradstevens posted about.
This is hardly just a left problem. That is just your bias

It's definitely not a 'left problem.' There have been plenty of attempts to kill people of varying political beliefs over the last few years. This tweet by Ezra Klein hits the mark on what we're seeing in real time in America.
It's also worth noting that just because Charlie Kirk was a prominent conservative voice it doesn't automatically mean he was killed by someone on the 'left.' It could just be a legitimately crazy person who did this with no political agenda. I'm not definitively saying that's what happened, but it can't be ruled out.
Amen Corey.

That's unfortunate. I think that person needs better friends/acquaintances.
I'm not saying there aren't people openingly celebrating Kirk's murder, but I'm not really seeing it. That said, I have seen a fair number of people say they're not upset about it. I don't agree with that sentiment, but that's not celebrating it.
I think it's a tragedy when any person who was presumably a good father/husband is taken from their family and friends too early, regardless of what they think politically.

I’ve GOT to get off social media and I think this may finally be my catalyst for doing so.
You’d think the sentiments you have would be the norm but it doesn’t seem that way.
I definitely would like to see some town hall type open discussions on gun violence to start to get more voices heard on how Americans want to live.
I'm definitely in favor of something like that, but open discussions on gun violence aren't going to yield anything serious or meaningful, if they were to happen at all.
I know I'm cynical on this, but discussions about guns aren't just a third rail; there's not even a rail to touch on the tracks. There is no debate on how Americans want to live when it comes to guns. If we don't want to live in a heavily armed society where the risk is significantly higher of experiencing gun violence than most places we're all free to leave, but nothing on this topic is going to change anytime soon.
Charlie Kirk was right that in America a certain level of annual gun deaths are acceptable to preserve the second amendment. I wish that weren't true, but it is.

I don't know who that guy is or if he personally knew Charlie Kirk, but he's clearly emotional. Maybe hitting the 'record' and 'publish' buttons on that tweet in such an emotional state weren't the best ideas.

There are hundreds being doxxed for some crazy posts and videos on Tik Tok, Blue Sky and Instagram celebrating his shooting. The worse are harassing his wife and commenting on her posts directly.
They really need to find the guy if only so more of the vitriol can be directed at the assassin and not the amorphous “left”. People are going to tear each other apart otherwise and the level of fear and distrust is going to go through the roof.
I wholeheartedly agree with this. Though it obviously can't be ruled out, there is no proof that 'the left' is responsible for this. If a foreign adversary wanted to ratchet up the political/cultural in-fighting in the US, then it would be mission accomplished.
I don't know who killed Charlie Kirk or why he was killed, but as you said without definitively finding out and directing the collective vitriol and frustration at who is responsible this is another touchpoint in further tearing the country apart.
@aloha-hoosier Wouldn't you say the shooter had to at least had some training? If you asked me to shoot somebody 200 yards away I could not do it right now.
While I regarded God as a tyrant I thought my sin a trifle; But when I knew Him to be my Father, then I mourned that I could ever have kicked against Him. When I thought God was hard, I found it easy to sin; but when I found God so kind, so good, so overflowing with compassion, I smote upon my breast to think that I could ever have rebelled against One who loved me so, and sought my good.” C. H. Spurgeon
@jdb I'd like to ask any of those celebrating what Kirk did to deserve death?

That's horrible. I'm glad I don't know anyone doing that personally (or at least I don't know of anyone I know doing this). That's a whole level of bottom-feeding evil. Harassing a grieving widow who is trying to comfort her young children is so far past just wrong. Social media can be a powerful tool for evil.
So you’re not arguing that only the left speaks ill of their opponents and is mean. You can’t be arguing that only the left speaks ill of their opponents or is “mean?”
What leftist speaker was prevented from speaking on campus because of right wing protests.
Good. That would be ridiculous.
