Populism comes in many forms, and isn't an either/or proposition when it comes to capitalism, socialism or even communism. Mamdani is a self-avowed socialist and his platform represents that from top to bottom. He may have used populist messaging to get the job, but it will be the trappings of socialism (aka free shit) that keeps him there...of course until the problem that always arises with socialism rears it's ugly head and he runs out of other people's money to pay for it all.

@boogie k economy. Pubs have got to lower prices or they’re cooked if dems stick to affordability issues. And honestly once prices are baked in I don’t think they'll come down

The polling results show females and foreigners (broken up into how many years they'd lived in New York) to New York voted heavily for Mandami. My question is why do 1st and 2nd generation immigrants favor Socialism over regular Democrats?
I understand women. They'll trade security for freedoms. And since a lot more of them have forgone marriage, they've turned to the state for that security. I don't get immigrants though. Are they lazy? Dumb? Scared? It aligns more with their homeland's culture? Everyone outside the U.S. is a far lefty? It's trendy? I'm open to all ideas.
Hasn't Trump had the US join in part ownership of a couple corporations, such as Intel? Maybe Republicans have a bigger socialism problem than Democrats.

@snarlcakes because, while Capitalism is the best system, our version of it is corrupt as fuck. It perceived to work for only a small amount of people anymore. No main stream politicians from either side are offering ideas to fix the problems. So people are desperate to try something new and here we are.

The game of Monopoly was created to explain capitalism. Again, it's by far the best system, but it's still easy to corrupt and game. A couple winners come out on top. Everyone else loses and just pays the winners until death. Then someone comes along and flips the board over. Game resets.
