@snarlcakes what will driverless trucks mean for jobs? Seriously, truck driving jobs are serious middle class jobs for people who don't want to go to college and become an accountant.

And very soon there won't even be humans building them.

Why not retrain them? The trades industry won't be automated for a long time. Machines cannot easily fix cars or trucks, get up on roofs, fix pipelines, etc. Tools can assist, but the actual work itself. We need more waiters, line cooks.

Conversely, can you imagine the reduction in insurance-related costs and more importantly, the preservation of lives? Thousands are killed each year in truck-related accidents and it's usually not the truckers.

Actually they’re a job where Igor or Harjit scam their way into a CDL, screw over brokers and shippers, and drive like maniacs.

There are still some good old boys hanging on but they’re dwindling.

Good riddance to bad rubbish.

A decade ago I’m not sure many would have foreseen the boom of durable, high paying construction jobs that data centers are creating.

Or that AI coding tools are actually increasing the need for highly trained developers and overall hiring is up.

Focusing on truck drivers misses the larger picture.

Which is the fatal arrogance of everyone who claims AI will create a jobless society.
