when you have over 40% of the country voting and supporting a guy that has committed almost every sin in the book, it's easy to understand why people view their fellow countryman as immoral.      I would bet the numbers pre-trump would look a lot better.

Having thought about this I hafta say this poll is not surprising. The important question is why. From my point of view, this condition is a relatively recent phenomenon. I think the Tucker Carlson interview @jdb posted in the Civil War thread speaks to this. In sum, we simply don’t like each other. We do not have the ability to disagree. We are losing, or have lost, mutual admiration and respect for our past. That admiration and respect held us together. Who would have ever thought the USA gold medal in hockey could be a treason for divisive comments?  Not me. I never thought I could lose a friend because of politics, but it happened.

To overcome division and hate, we need discover and return to admiration and respect for opposing points of view, traditions, historical figures, others, and ourselves. That’s a tall order when we assume anyone who doesn’t hold our views is deplorable, ignorant, or dumb.

Subtlety is not your strong suit.

Always when they don't like the results of the polls and pretty much never when they like the results. Look at dbm every time he sees a poll that's somewhat positive for the President. Frankly, this attitude about polls is one of the things that divide us. Not believing the polls or dismissing uncomfortable news as "fake news" is part of our problem. Maybe I contributed to this in a way. I spent years JOKING about Liberal Democrats being commies. It was obvious I was joking. I think. Now many people on my side liberally call ALL Democrats Communists and it's clear they are not joking. I long treated Democrats as my fellow Americans, patriotic in their way, but misguided in their policies. 😉 Now many Americans, as the polls clearly show, treat the other side as enemies. It's very clearly unhelpful that the leader of our side routinely calls Democrats his "enemies" and a great threat to Americans and our security. He even does this in settings that were traditionally nonpartisan and/or apolitical - like funerals and celebrations, even when talking to apolitical groups like the military or government workers. We all need to tone this down on both sides, but we can really only influence our own for the most part and that's what we need to do.

I've spent nearly three decades in the military serving America and it NEVER, not once, ever occurred to me that I was only serving to protect Republican Americans. That's the attitude we should all have, isn't it?

Democrats are to blame.  They hate the United States. They've always despised our country and want it destroyed.  Republicans are not like that.  Case in point.

@carramrod My view is freedom of speech which is an American value codified into law has a lot to do with this. If that man slammed the government and went back to Canada he would probably have a real problem. Do we notice how Chinese and North Korean people all fall in line under their leaders? What happens to them if they don't? Notice also our athletes in the Olympics. Who complains about their government? It's the U.S. athletes. The only way foreign players would do that is when they are defecting to America. These Iranian soccer players didn't sing their country's song and were trying very hard to not have to go back. Pray for these players who had to return.

While I regarded God as a tyrant I thought my sin a trifle; But when I knew Him to be my Father, then I mourned that I could ever have kicked against Him. When I thought God was hard, I found it easy to sin; but when I found God so kind, so good, so overflowing with compassion, I smote upon my breast to think that I could ever have rebelled against One who loved me so, and sought my good.” C. H. Spurgeon

dbm was basically saying the same thing as COH, just in a more direct, less wordy way.

It seems bad, I guess, but in a multi-cultural, multi-ethnic society, I think this is to be expected.

I can help clear this up Brad.  That's why I'm on here. Democrats have turned into a bunch of ghey socialists.  They need to get their sh#t together.  Don't hesitate to ask if you have any other questions.

Main question asked:

“Generally, how would you rate the morality and ethics of (survey country nationality)s – are their morals very good, somewhat good, somewhat bad or very bad?”

Based on the wording, I don’t see how this has anything to do with differences in religion or politics because when answering you’re including all groups. Unless…you don’t include yourself as an American.

“Very good” received a very small percentage of votes, so this seems to be indicative of how the vast majority of Americans view our morality. We’re not virtuous. We’re sinners. However you want to describe it. This strikes me as a cultural sentiment—for example, we’re a divided nation and we’re all to blame, that is, we could all do better.

Interesting to note, there was only one specific behavior that scored anywhere close to 100% agreement—marital infidelity.

This survey can also explain why voters are willing to ignore Trump‘s repugnant behavior. “Who of us has a right to judge him?”

My question was - is any polling relevant? If nobody I know has been asked any of these types of questions in recent years, what good are they? That means an entire subset of people is excluded from the results.

Are people who actually respond to spam texts and calls really the right people to rely upon from a data perspective? There is a nonresponsive weighting and statistical game that pollsters have to play to try and remove the lack of responsiveness from employed, family people. They barely have time to figure out summer camps, let alone participate in an online survey, focus group, or otherwise.

There's a reason why polls have twice failed to predict Trump's victory, among other examples. Statistical modeling only goes so far and is never going to accurately reflect reality.

I can't remember the ladies name, but she was the "gold standard" of polling and had Iowa +3 the day before the elections.  Most polling and surveys are garbage and used to set narratives.   They're propaganda.
