@jdb Holborn and St Pancras is the London constituency vacated by Kier Starmer when he resigned from Parliament. The special election is tomorrow. Green leader Zach Polanski has made a big push to win this seat, and the Greens have been eating away at Labour from the left ever since the shine on Starmer started to wear off. But that also means after Labour cleaned house of their own antisemitism issues during the Corbyn years, a lot of those folks moved to the Greens, and this vote couldn't have come at a worse time for Polanski. Because of how the Green party works, a membership-wide vote on a policy position ends up really being decided by just a few hundred dedicated activists, which is exactly what happened here. The vast majority of members didn't take part, and the effectively single-issue anti-Israel contingent won. Polanski, showing either wisdom or cowardice depending on how things shake out, decided not to get involved at all, and focus just on his race. But now, he's faced with the public backlash of being the leader of a party that officially espouses a clearly antisemitic platform.

Add to the current excitement over the new Burnham government, and this probably signals a reversal of fortunes for the Greens. Liberals who are uncomfortable with the Zionism=racism plank will drift back toward Labour. And Labour has essentially ruled out cooperating or forming a coalition with the Greens so long as this remains part of their official policy, which could make things interesting if no party gets a majority in the next general election.
