For the first time since the Great Depression, America is seeing net negative migration.
Yes, people wanted the border closed and violent criminals deported, but is net negative migration what everyone signed up for? The net negative migration of 150,000 people is relatively small right now, but that number is suspected to grow. Is that a good thing for the country?
@ohio-guy Net negative migration is a bad thing for the US economy. It leads to weaker employment, GDP and consumer spending.
(International travel/tourism to the US is also falling. It dropped 6% in 2025, with accompanying losses of $12.5 billion for the US economy. We are the only major global destination that experienced such a drop in 2025).
The answer to net negative migration? Have more babies! It costs only $350,000 to $450,000 to raise a baby born in 2026 to age 18.

A good friend will bail you out of jail, but your best friend will be sitting next to you in the cell saying "that was f***ing awesome"
Yes but isn’t it worth it for getting rid of Rosie O'Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres?

Yes, I signed up for it and it's a good thing for the country.

This is kind of what I was thinking, but based on some of the other responses here, that doesn't seem to be the consensus. I don't see how negative net migration and a sharp dive in tourism is a good thing for the country. Maybe some of our other OTF'ers can enlighten us.
Yahoo News is brilliant. We don’t even have comprehensive numbers on legal in migration for 2025 yet. Was it higher or lower than last year? Who knows? How many green cards were issued v 2024?
How much of the outmigration was those residing here illegally?
What is the status of the immigrants behind these numbers?
These are the important questions that none of the leftist dullards in this thread have even bothered to ask and couldn’t even answer if they wanted to since DHS has not released them yet.

Anecdotally, Canadians are staying away from the US in droves. Most of my wife's family and friends, who normally would be spending a lot of time and money here, are going elsewhere.

There are drawbacks, but have the general rules/principles been tested for immigration at the levels seen during the Biden administration, that much in that short time period. What is the impact on housing, energy, wages, job markets, etc? Does the amount of people requiring social assistance have an impact?
People talk about net migration in the simplest form of positive good & negative bad but I suspect the amount matters as well.
Also, imo our National Parks system is screwed up anyway & a drop in foreigners is welcome. On our last two park visits, to Haleakala & Yosemite, it’s getting difficult to get passes to the limited attendance events & locations. No taxpaying US citizen should ever be denied one of those spots in favor of a foreigner.

Importing third world cheap labor in what could be one of the largest deflationary periods in human history is really really dumb idea. It's also a bad idea when you have a government and welfare system our size. Give it a couple of decades and we can revisit immigration after the AI revolution and when the foreign born population decreases back to the single digits.

"People" want all illegal immigrants deported--at least a majority of Americans do as of right now:For the first time since the Great Depression, America is seeing net negative migration.

But even if those polls were wrong, thankfully we don't operate in a pure democracy, based on current polling data. We operate in a nation of laws passed through a republican system. The validly passed and enacted laws currently on the books require deportation for people here illegally, not just those who also commit violent crime. So if you believe in operating our nation in a lawful way--I do, and I think that is a good thing for the country-- you should support deportations of all illegal immigrants. Or at least that's what Barrack Obama believed in 2010:
I'm with 2010 Obama on this one.
Re the demographic and economic effects, it's bound to stabilize. I don't see our birth rates increasing, but after Trump, I'm guessing we'll have net influx again. Of course, if we don't, environmentalists and nativists or even those who work jobs where they compete against illegal labor (the people the Dems used to care about) should still be happy.

So long as it's people like Rosanne Barr, Ellen Degeneres and Keith Olbermann, I don't see a problem with it.

There is also the issue that their economy is in the shitter. They're unfortunately dumb enough to continue electing leftist idiots who are even worse than Biden on immigration and the economy.
