I get what you're saying and agree to a point. There should always been a healthy level of skepticism and push back on our elected officials. That said, Trump is so much worse than anyone that came before him. He's objectively a horrible and ignorant human being who has no respect for the office he holds, the government he's suppose to run or the people he supposedly represents.
Joyce Carol is mainly spot on with her quote in the OP, save for one point. He never had a moral pulse. He operates purely out of what he and those he thinks can help him get out of something.

Yep - if only he had just run for president in the Republican primaries a few times and no one actually took him seriously, he'd probably just be a mildly entertaining distraction. Standing on debate stages every 3 to 4 years and saying crazy things about what he'd do as president and how the system is rigged against him would be very different as a crazy, no-chance candidate vs saying those things as actual POTUS.

Her work is so renowned, so enmeshed in our culture that we're all 'fans' of her to some extent whether we know it or not. She's a super big deal and a super relevant person.
