Soccer is capital punishment.
I am learning to appreciate it, somewhat, but the things that irk me:
1) the fact that nobody knows when the game is over (or even about to be over) until it is over. "Stoppage time" ought to be logged by stopping the damn clock. Oh the horrors! Then the play would be halted at 45 min and 90 min, on the nose.
2) the wild celebration over achieving a scoreless tie. 90 minutes and maybe two good shots, both missed. Wow, party for that great job.
3) the flopping. You've been mortally wounded, then when it isn't called, you hop up like nothing happened because, well, nothing happened.
4) offsides. It has to be reviewed every time, the refs get it wrong a third of the time. Plus, it's not clear, most of the time. We hear "They are reviewing it. We have no idea... let's just wait and see if it is good or not!"
1. Well, it also makes it super exciting to know you might get one more chance at a counter, etc.
2. I bet you hate a pitcher's duel too don't you?
3. They're working on it. I think handing out yellows for dives now has cut it down quite a bit. But remember, it's a big field with three sets of eyes. Shithousery is part of the sport.
4. The new system is excellent, b/c it's objectively correct. It will get faster over time with the semi automated review.
On last night. Morocco is very very good. Their number 8 moves like he’s playing pickup. Beautiful player.

Obviously, the way things are going, no one is guaranteed anything, but I'm certainly looking forward to France-Morocco in the quarters.
The Azteca will be something to behold tonight
@bar-down Yay a delayed kickoff. I'll find out what happened when I wake up tomorrow.
@bar-down nothing against Congo, but man how disappointing would this result be for England.
@goat almost across the board everyone is about the same. the difference is always those teams who have someone who can finish. it's almost everything at this point. kane is that guy. england mexico in mexico will be fun
Damn, that's not fair. The US team is having to play two countries in the first round. 😡
.
And, WTF does Russell Crowe know about coaching soccer? I knew celebrities were infesting this WC, but damn.

Already did that bit.
Is it Pool-iss-ick or Pool-iss-itch? Seems like people can't decide.
@bar-down Is this the best US team I've ever watched? Because it sure seems like it.
@goat dude I’m at our club with three former wc players right now and on a text group with two others. I was invited to two mini camps with bora. We’re all talking about it now. It was all just college kids. Both camps I was invited to were literally all college kids. Look where these guys play(ed) Monaco. Barca. Dortmund. Ac Milan and on and on. It’s a night and day difference. Athleticism. Speed. Technical.
That red card was BS, wasn’t it?
