They're gonna kill the Golden Goose. Take something so awesome as it is and inject it with so much bullshit that it's unwatchable.
It's not just a dumb concert either. I don't get all the Fab 5 crap. They didn't win shit. The '89 team is who they should have been talking about. Will Forte as Naismith should have stayed in the lame commercials.
Hope is not optimism, which expects things to turn out well, but something rooted in the conviction that there is good worth working for. - Seamus Heaney, Irish poet and likely Hoosier basketball fan. POTFB

next thing you know they'll want to host it overseas to "attract" that market. h

Should have had either players from the '89 Michigan national champs or players from the undefeated 1976 IU team to commemorate the 50th anniversary of those great undefeated Hoosiers.

You think the Final 4 games were bad, just wait til tonight! Start time is like 8:50p, but with all the stupid pre-lame Ceremonies and long ass halftime show, the game won’t end til 2am! I’ll be passed out probably by tip-off!

Most fans couldn’t name one player from the ‘89 UM team, but the Fab Five were a phenomenon. It’s style over substance, but that’s modern day media and sports. The Final Four went over the falls when they started having it in football stadiums. Instead of a cool live environment, it became a cavernous experience where nearly all of the seats were bad. Anyone who saw us play in STL in 1973 or win it in Philly in 1976 or 1981 would tell you how much better those atmospheres were than when we played in the Superdome in 1987. That’s when the NCAA sold it out.

It's not just the Final Four. Everything has gone this way. The need to entertain people 24/7 drives everything. While I enjoy the fan fests and activities surrounding the games, the games sometimes seem secondary to the people in charge.

They did have the '76 Hoosiers at HT & made a pretty big deal about it. Very nice ceremony MCed by Don Fisher.
I went to the FF and have a mixed view of whether the games should be in a football stadium.
On the one hand, it was a tremendous specticle having 72000 BB fans in one setting. Great energy around the scene outside and around town as a whole. The whole thing screams 'big deal'. And fans of the team are willing to pay the price just to be there, drink before & after etc..If they are intelligent at all, they should know when they will be in the rafters. I personally would not have paid $360 for my seats for the 3 games, but they were a gift. If IU was a participant, I would willingly have paid the $360 just for the scene.
On the other hand, as you say, there are a ton of terrible seats. In my case, I spend as much time watching the game on the jumbo screen as directly watching the floor.
One other aspect of the setting stood out for me. The fans don't make that much difference other than making the scene special. The building is so huge that the sound is mostly lost. So, I did not sense the fan domination by Illinois on Saturday and by Michigan on Sunday actually affected the game all that much. Maybe I'd have a different thought on that if I was much closer, but that's the way it seemed from the cheap seats.
As to all the noise & promotion.....I always wonder if people are all going fing deaf when I go to a movie or stadium. The sound system was roughly the same volume as a jet plane taking off. There is so much noise that the music often drowns out the fans and the pep bands. And this game featured a DJ 'riling' up the fans......"1,2,3 everybody scream"!!! Fing a. So being a normal person, I hate all that crap. I don't know that anyone actually likes it, bit almost everyone is more tolerant of it then me.

I'd agree, I went to the FF in 92 in the metro dome in 94 at Charlotte and again in 02 at the Georgia dome. If IU had not been participating in 92 and 02 it would have been very vanilla. Seats for the 92 were in the nose bleeds about as far away as one could be ... it was hard to tell what was going on. I had great seats on 94 from Homer Drew .. about 10'rows up behind Arkansas bench , I had better seats in 02 than I did in 92 but still not great. It was fun but unless I had real good seats going forward or they were gifted and it was in Chicago I wouldnt go back, being up in the rafters of said football stadiums it's a Jumbotron watch or just really a party. Real hard to see the court
