It is much easier to be a pessimist than an optimist.  There are 360 teams in DI bball.  25 are "good", 25 are "okay", and the other 310 suck.

The whole "i know what good coaching looks like and this isn't it" comes across as very sanctimonious, not that you care.  The team better not miss a block-out, cause god knows that is a sign of bad coaching.

By definition, sanctimonious means feeling/acting morally superior. Not sure how believing a coach is in over his head is a sanctimonious opinion. Harsh critique? Perhaps. Pessimistic? Sure. But not sanctimonious.

This isn’t going to work out. Not competitive against good teams on the road despite a week to prepare.

Cignetti was a complete fluke. Dolson owns this disaster.

It was rather embarrassing.  No question.  No answer at all.

Just call a spade a spade. Dolson hit a monumental grand slam with CC. He struck out 3x in the same inning in basketball coach hires. Beyond believable he didn't have the stones to fire Woodson with May available. Then didn't have the stones to make a phone call to bring in a coach because he was involved in a domestic dispute after a night drinking. No other issues ever. One frigging night with a drunk girlfriend. Oh that would look so wo bad to the IU brand. Losing year in and year out ruins the brand. We are now in another four year mediocrity cycle known all too well to IU basketball fans. Good thing football pays the bills now.

@iusports4thewin I have said this from the start- next yr is the barometer on DD.

I truly believe the goal for him this yr was to get the right culture established-  this program has had zero identity for 8+ years.  We will see. I hope he is the answer, as I just don’t see anyone e out there that is a grand slam hire and would come here.

Beard has lost 9 games in a row and likely loses out this year. They're one of the worst P5 teams in the country and he has very good NIL.

Yes.  We're either going to make a sizeable jump forward next season or not.  If not it will be very telling.  We just don't know what we have yet given that DD had to replace an entire roster and staff with just decent NIL $ in a bad portal year.

That's the saddest part. If IU were still a Top 10-15 coaching destination, DD wouldn't be here. I've thought IU settled from Day 1, and nothing that's happened since has changed my mind. You can feed me all the "it's his first year" bullshit you want, but that's a lame excuse in the NIL era ... especially with good resources.

I have no doubt he'll get at least four years to prove his worth, so we'll see.

Really?  Why didn't UK and UL hire better coaches?  Why did Duke and UNC go in house?  Field of 68 just ranked the B1G jobs after interviewing coaches.  IU was #2 just a hair behind UM who has better NIL currently.

That's after 8 years of Bigfoot and the Curmudgeon.

Ahh, diverting attention away from IU by bringing up Louisville and Kentucky. Maybe they're no longer Top 15 jobs either.

I suppose I should chill and accept that the B1G's #2 NIL budget equates to 10th place. My mistake.

I'm not sure I understand why DDV haters really, really want to ignore the landscape of college basketball right now. We just saw multiple major programs have openings: UK, UofL, Mich, OSU.

None of them hired a proven high-major coach. None of them touched Beard. May was clearly the best of the bunch but he was at FAU. Multiple tried to get him and Mich. won. The others hired unproven commodities. Throw in UNC/Duke who kept it in house and didn't even try to hire anybody big.

NIL/portal and rev share now enables guys to win pretty much anywhere so its completely legit to point out that big names aren't necessarily willing to move for slightly better NIL. UofL has the same resources and NIL that IU does. UK has TWICE the NIL and spent over 20+ million that rosster, yet they still hired Pope and not some mega coach.

Long term, top 15/20 NIL should absolutely lead to better results. Again, acting like this year is the goal is a strawman.

@surjay This "hater" and "you want IU to lose" shit is getting old. I'm simply anti-mediocrity, that's all.
