You also need a dynamic exciting coach who can sell kids.

Agreed.  See what this year yields.  In this new environment there's certainly no need to wait beyond year two to make an assessment.

It most certainly should not but after watching woodson get four years I will  hold get my hopes up they would make a move if it looked like it was needed.

Michigan is far wealthier than IU and can put elite resources into its revenue sports programs. IU has good resources but is a level below the elite schools. Unless Dusty gets a burning desire to lead his alma mater to glory, he is staying at Michigan or going to the NBA.

Yeah most likely though right now I am sure he is staying he is the hottest  coach in the country. With winning a title and the money he has he will likely land totally studs from the portal and they will be really good again next year.

@arioznahoosier4554 Sounds like everyone else should just save their money and award the 2027 championship to Michigan now.

We would have been the hunt for Dusty a year earlier. If Dolson had been sure that was who he wanted. He could have offered salary and maybe NIL as good as Michigan that year. But Dolson may have waffled anyway. But we didnt have an opening! So missing on May is a moot point, doesnt matter. But if we had an opening we had a shot. Not buying he was never coming here. We dont know what the bidding and structure of offers between us and them would have looked like. But we didnt have an opening.

After one year at Michigan, no other school had a shot at May... He won immediately, and Michigan put in the resources to make it one of the top few gigs anywhere. May had no chance of leaving anymore. None... No chance he would be that stupid. Prestigious university with a ton of money and they loved him and he already had it going.

So that doesnt bother me. Theres another coach we passed on last year who if he wins will annoy me. IF we dont win too. Not buying the he was never coming here BS on that hire either. And we did have an opening.

@iugradman I suspect at some point a cap of sorts will be instituted along with transfer limitations.  I think at that point some of the old factors that inured to the benefit of blue bloods will come back into the fold as opposed to just an arms race of who can spend the most etc.
