GL guys. We need more uncertainty tossed in by the courts; there just isn't enough of it.

Reed should feel good that he made some bank before his game was widely seen.

(Not all his fault, we didn't exactly build something strong to help.)

Rules can change.  They got what they agreed to ... they weren't jipped out of anything...

NCAA bbal has become a clown show. Even if IU was really good I am having a hard time getting into it anymore its nothing but another pro league now.

@openwheel really hate IU fans dumping on IU players. The problem with Bailey's game was primarily that he was asked to play the 5 in the B10. That isn't his fault. Put him on this roster and his game would look a whole lot better with Samet and Sherrell to man the 5.

@kkott

Yeah, you're right.

But what's done is done.

I was angry about the boos last year, at assembly hall. So almost didn't post what I did, but instead just a small caveat 'not all his fault'.

I don't know that the main issue was being asked to play out of position though. I think that is a canard. It was the higher level of competition, more quickness by defenses, more physicality. Reed had a few big games that helped us win those. And I never have faulted his giving his all for IU. He did that. But I never saw the skills that would work great as a 4 on the perimeter in the B1G either, he played there plenty for us. Coach tried to set him up. His mobility and ability to drive yeah, great, but how often is that available against Big Ten defense? Especially without bumps or slaps on the ball? Not nearly as much as at the lower level where he previously played.

I liked Bailey... to a point. He played his heart out and did everything right up until having to actually put the ball through the hoop. I've never seen anyone at this level play as weak at the rim as Bailey. I can count the number of times he scored through contact on one hand. It got to be comical.

For some reason we had multiple guys who liked to bonk the side or even underside of the rim with their shots, if they were bumped. Or it would slam off the glass without much touch and miss. The only two players we had who could finish were Wilkerson and Alexis.

I hope that's greatly improved this year. Pretty sure we got guys now who can finish.

Coach should have had 'finishing drills' with guys underneath holding those big pads and pushing them unexpectedly when they were about to shoot. At least get the mental part down that you are still supposed to make those. LOL

@kkott One of the issues Bailey had was he was both recruited to anchor the 5 for us, but he was also PAID like a high level, anchor, high major post player.  I do agree that Bailey would have been much better suited as a stretch 4, of some sort, or a main rotation bench post guy.  On a team with a couple other really good, physical, bigs... Reed could have provided 15-20 minutes of pretty effective, versatile, play.  But that's not the situation he was in, and the one he signed up for when he accepted the role and NIL package that he did.

I think he was pretty symbolic of what our team was last year.  He, and many of the other key players, were getting paid "top 20", high major, starter level money... because they were at IU, who had the budget to pay a roster how they did.  Financially, they were all very fortunate to be in the situation they were in.  But from a basketball perspective, they just weren't up to those standards.

In some ways, not Reed's fault.  But in the end... he signed up for it, and got a big paycheck for it.  Having said all this... I think some of the more harsh criticism towards him was unfounded.  He wasn't THAT bad.  In fact, many of his metrics numbers were pretty solid.  And when we were at our best, he was one of the guys out there.  Our best just didn't happen enough, and even when it did, it wasn't really good enough to compete with the top teams on our schedule.  Sam came on at the end of the year, when we transitioned over to him being more of the main post guy.  He was better suited to play against high major bigs, than Reed was.  But his emergence also coincided with our late season slide.

Our federal system is a great strength; however, the college sports situation exposes a significant downside, which still wouldn't have been an issue if we had a legislative branch that works.

He still can't or wouldn't shoot the 3.
