@hoosiers94 A lot of the top "NBA studs" probably want a winning coach/program and top dollars. IU can only offer dollars for now.

I'm not as negative on CDD as some but it cannot be denied that his first season at IU didn't earn him any benefit of the doubt. Portal haul looks good but we still need to see that translate to better success on the floor.

I am not ready to name assembly hall ryan carr court like some btown banners guys but he got a nice class. But make no mistake without money its pretty hard to land a top portal class no matter how good a recruiter you are. Not sure on the NCAA but on paper this team  should finish top 5 in the big ten.

@iureactionary As you say, this could be moot if they land a competent 4/5 option. For now, here's what I have:

5 - Yigitoglu (28) and Sherrell (12)

4 - Sherrell (18), Sisley (14), Mustaf (8)

3 - Mustaf (18), Harris (16), Karvala (6)

2 - Lindsay (26), Harris (10), PAM (4)

1 - Burton (32), Lindsay (4), PAM (4)

I would not be at all surprised to see Prince Alexander-Moody end up with more than eight minutes per game. If they are able to land a big guy that can give them 10 competent minutes, mostly at the 5 (meaning Sherrell plays more at the 4 and Mustaf plays less at the 4)...I'd feel a bit better about things in the frontcourt rotation. On the whole though, it's an exciting roster. Not elite and they won't contend for the Big Ten title but exciting nonetheless.

Its good to have realistic expectations many get too drawn into seeing its the top portal class and think we are challenging for the big ten title. Not on here but other sites. I think they can certainly finish top five big ten if all goes right and there are no major injuries

oh yeah the money is the biggest part.  Couple that with someone like Carr and on paper you have a blueprint for success... execution is the part that is sometimes fumbled

managing realistic expectations... exactly.  This roster is better than last year.. wasn't going to be hard to do if the money was there.  But compared to other rosters will it be top tier.  Doubt it so expecting this roster to compete for titles is unrealistic likely. Which to me is the issue... don't we want to compete for titles.  So this year to me is very crucial to turning the page on IU basketball .. from mediocre has beens to plugged in on the move up and coming blue blood powerhouse once again

@hoosiers94 I think he will for some but not for all. If an "NBA" caliber player is choosing between a school with a "household name" coach, that's been a regular in the tournament and had a final four in the past few years, vs IU, for equal or maybe even less money, some will just take the money but others might prefer the bigger stage, even if IU has some claim to "NBA street cred."

When we get back to being one of those regular tournament teams with recent final fours, that won't be an issue for us.

i don’t care about the rankings at all, to be honest.

what i’m most excited about other than just the guys they added was that it seems like they fit well together on paper. again, we’ll have to see it first but the way they constructed the roster makes sense to me and i still think they add a couple more younger pieces to balance the classes a bit.

Dusty won a title in his second season. DeVries has to make it to the second weekend at minimum.

Good. But dont know if that name will eclipse the current all-time recruit name, Peter Jurkin.  A bit cleaner, granted.

Listening to a podcast- the college GM is not the decision maker.  They are working agents all yr learning who may go portaling, then evaluating based on the HC style of player and the cost.  They do not recruit directly.  Basically, they are vetting players and getting the scoop on who may be available

I added this bc, although Carr has some contacts, he really doesn’t bring the players in

do they have contact with agents ?

If he isn’t sipping bourbon in dimly lit smoke filled rooms, talking to agents every week, I’m firing his ass immediately!

@iugradman I'm not going to base his progress off tournament results, because he could get the team playing better with good results and still get upset for a variety of reasons. If we compete like a good solid tournament team and are tough to play, finish top 4 in conference and pull a couple upsets during the season, and get say a 6 seed or better, I'd see that as progress, even if we were upset in the tournament. Of course I'd not like it, and feel like they are building a roster that should be top 25 and S16 type team, but to me he could show improvement and enough success that not making a S16 wouldn't signal no hope.
