Where have you seen anyone Burton to Yaxel? Burton will be the best pg we have had since yogi, even w his warts- 100% an upgradeEerily quiet for a day with how many guys on campus, 3, 4? Im about to go dark myself watching the Masters for 5 straight hours.
Im not nearly as jacked about Burton as our PG, as many others are. But relative to where we’ve been recently, getting him would be a good sign, and I’d be excited about it. Burton, Mustaf, Harris would be a solid backcourt. But those expecting Burton to have a Landeborg, or even a Cadeau like impact, because of his numbers at ND, will be let down. He can score at all 3 levels, but he isn’t overly efficient at any of them. And he has never been a guy that “runs an offense”…not at Penn, not at ND. And he isn’t a very physical or effective lead defender. If he ends up as our PG, CDD will need to surround him with physicality, ball movers, and defenders…to compete with the upper half of the conference that is. Mustaf will help, haven’t seen enough of Harris to know if he would too.

Its no different than the total hype over miles rice. He put up big numbers on a bad team and people thought he would be actotal stud at iu. I think he will be decent but yeah if your expecting yogi Ferrell be prepared yo be disappointed
Well now they appear to be walking back the done deal talk on sherrell since their boy rabby posted this. They were going to ask David Lee Roth but one guy said he deleted his x account. They dont trust george lettuce they thinks its a Woodson burner account. Lol
remain highly confident IU lands Burton and Mustaf. I think IU is in a good spot with Harris.
IU is legitimately in there with Sherrell, but MSU is fighting as hard as it can on that one. Still checking on a couple other schools as well on Sherrell, but I know MSU is fighting hard.

We’re the school with the funds to drive up the price but the one top players aren’t coming to unless we overpay. Just like last year, & the year before, etc. this “done deal” talk happens multiple times every offseason & then we end up with scraps. We need to be honest about it though, why would a kid choose IU over other programs right now if the money is equal?

@ge-off JHS was a better all around PG than Burton is. But for sure, he’ll be one of the better scoring guards we’ve had in a while. Unless he changes how he’s played since middle school though, those of us that don’t like over dribbling, and do like the movement based elements in CDDs offense, won’t always enjoy watching Burton play.
With respect to where we’ve been in recent years, it is an exiting pickup, if we get him. But if he ends up the main, marquee guy we get…I don’t think he’s good enough to lead IU to where we all expect them to be. Thats where the Landeborg/Cadeau comp came from. Seems as if some are overhyping him due to his numbers. And glazing him with “best PG since Yogi” talk. JHS is better, and there have been literally zero other PG worth even talking about in a comp like this. So he could be the best since Yogi, and still not be all that great.
I think he’s talented. He’s a good scorer. He can be fun to watch. But he hasn’t shown me that hes a PG that can be given the ball and lead a sweet 16 level team. If we get him, I will be very glad to be wrong!
A recruiting reset: Burton and Mustaf seem like a matter of "when" and not "if". Darren Harris seems highly likely to commit as well. I love Markus Burton and I think Mustaf and Harris are two adds that make sense as solid role players with two years left. Aiden Sherrell is on campus for his official visit with a Michigan State visit still scheduled to come and Duke and Arkansas nosing around.
Names I have heard as possibilities for the Hoosiers to be involved with: Samet Yigitoglu (center from SMU with two years left), Jake Hall (New Mexico guard with three years left) and Rowan Brumbaugh (Tulane guard with one year left). Obviously, a lot hinges on what Aiden Sherrell decides. There are not many players with his potential impact remaining in the portal and the path IU takes to add pieces for the rest of the roster probably depends on whether or not he's a member of it.
What happened with the center/big man from UofL? Fru???? Did he sign somewhere and I missed it? Obviously, Sherrell is the big fish here and I hope we pony up the cash and make it happen, but I wouldn't mind Fru alongside him.
@tjinman1987 Hate to be overly negative on the Sherrell recruitment... but I'll be surprised if he ends up anywhere but MSU, at this point. Maybe if the SMU center would be appreciably less money than Sherrell would be, it could help us land some other pieces we'll also be needing? Looking for potential silver lining thoughts for if Sherrell leaves IU without committing.
