@ohio-guy they aren’t employees of IU. Now the rev share might be different.
who is looking for rainbows? Plenty to criticize for sure- just join me in not giving a f*^%k anymore, knowing IU will never be what it once was, and you will be set free! I still hope, but deep down I know what IU is and has been for 25 years sans a yr or two!@openwheel you missed the sarcasm! Of course I’ll cheer and hope for a better season- just all the doom on hear makes one wonder why even bother
The only place you will find pure rainbows and unicorns is hoosier sports nation they do not allow doom so if you do not want any doom that is the place. Btown banners has just as much doom as this board.
the IU admin just does t care about hoops like it used to- they are very afraid of hiring a great coach for fear of said coach running the school- hopefully Cig keeps on and our admin decides to hire a home run guy- I like DD- if next yrs team is t markedly better, time to move on- no more 4 yr chances
One problem with making all spending and budgets public is that agents and players are given a major advantage when negotiating with a college or university through knowledge of the numbers.Yes, only a few select people know the budget (Dolson, Carr, DeVries & couple more IU people) and they're certainly not going to tell the player agents, us and the rest of the world what it happens to be.@arioznahoosier4554 He doesn’t know the budget and you don’t either. This is what - the 5th or 6th post from you telling us how we are about to fail in the portal? We get your pov. Maybe we will fail - but I’m more optimistic.
I think NIL spending and budgets should all be public knowledge. Especially at public schools. I may have missed it, but I don't know how they got away with keeping that information (relatively) private.
DeVries should have plenty of familiarity with Markus Burton as Markus was offered a scholarship to play at Drake while DD was its coach.
An A-10 2nd-Teamer? A kid from South Alabama State Tech???? Overwhelming.
ive been trying to tell ya all
@spartans9312 Why? If you have 1 year left and want to compete for a championship, which school are you going to? I don't know what his motivations are, but I wouldn't be surprised for kids picking Houston over IU.
What North said…doesn’t seem like a Sampson guard
Are the numbers you are citing based on the NY Times article of total operating expenses for NCAA basketball programs? From a basketball standpoint there is zero reason for Burton to pick IU over Houston. And DeVries has not shown he can moneyball a team to success so $12-$14 million NIL won’t be enough to build a contending roster.
He could pick IU it comes down to the only two selling points DD has imo.
1. Can we outbid Houston? An outbid can work with kids looking for coin
2. Sometimes guys do want to come home and play in their home state.
To me those are the two selling points in IU's favor but I have no idea if it will be enough. Sampson can point to all of his recent success.
I saw Sampson commenting at the beginning of the tourney to the effect that Houston was the 'poorest' P5 school out there. so having adequate NIL is definitely an issue with him.
He certainly does not have Duke level but by no means is he the poorest in the power five if he had over 12 million. He was still able to sign 3 five star recruits last year also with 12 million. I would say Iowa State got pretty good bang for their buck.
teams and ranked 72nd nationally, about the same as Memphis, Virginia Tech and Seton Hall. To put that in context, UConn spent more than that ($11.4 million) on salaries for its coaching staff last season.
What Sweet 16 teams spend
I just hope like hell Carr is working the overseas connections right now. The guys IU is linked w so far not difference makers other than Burton- would be a good get along with Bramsbiough(sp)
maybe our bigs come from afar?
@hoosiers94 That's only part of the story (which you are well aware of). Willfully ignoring the All-ACC point guard that is visiting and the quality SEC big man that IU has been linked with and only pointing out Adam Olsen or Riley Allenspach is just picking and choosing things that fit your narrative. Being underwhelmed is fine but only focusing on the perceived weakest parts of the potential incoming portal haul is disingenuous, in my opinion. But, as always, feel however you'd like to feel and others can do the same as they see fit!
@ge-off Rowan Brumbaugh is the name you are searching for. J.P. Estrella is a difference-maker. I don't think there's any debating that.
Nick Dorn is entering the transfer portal (per Joe Tipton of On3...I think had it first). This is not surprising at all. Dorn is a three-point specialist that went ice cold when IU needed him most and the Hoosiers feel like they can upgrade on his scholarship spot (or just reallocate the funds he was demanding for a bit cheaper).
If IU gets Adam Olsen, he effectively replaces the shooting of Dorn while adding a bit more size and possibly upgrading as a slightly more well-rounded offensive player. I would not want both Olsen and Dorn but one of them would be good to have and I'd guess Olsen is the cheaper of the two.
incredible. wouldn't be an iu message board without people being pre mad by guys iu has even been mentioned with.
I personally would like to keep Dorn. I think he needs to take a pay cut, tho, or stay for the same money. Yes, he DID go ice-cold but he has shown the ability to find his stroke at times. What I like is his length, defense, rebounding, nose for the ball. He brings a good bit more than just shooting and with a year to improve his game, I think he could be valuable off the bench. NOW, this is where a good coach will excel, Individual Development. Does CDD have it in him??? Sounds like this Olsen dude is pretty well a one-trick pony.

the bold, described nick dorn this year.
as has been said before, the olsen kid seems like the dorn replacement.
i would be disappointed if olsen was a starter unless they had burton, juke harris and sherrill level top three.
Here's the deal: The hiring of CDD did not send any shock waves thru the College BBall world. CDD did not create any excitement for the program during the season. He did NOT develop Sisley or anyone else as the season went along. I did not see anyone elevate their game as the season went along. I did not see the TEAM get any better as the season went along. I think ANY coach could have achieved those results with our roster. Yes, the roster was deeply flawed, but we IU fans know basketball and we know when a team is over-achieving. We did not see that this year, not even close. SO YES, we are all hoping for some JUICE to the program through portal additions. There is no overstating how important this portal is to our program this year. This portal season will define how the University, Boosters, AD view the importance of Basketball to the University. The DUDES are out there. We need some DUDES. Go get them.
