Hard pass on Rice. He's a one dimensional ball hog who disrupts the team chemistry not to mention his complacent attitude

@kkott The Winker guy reminds me of a lesser version of Bailey.  Maybe what Bailey looked like as a freshman?

Rice as a backup ball handler.

Foreign development big.

Portal big with some strength and a high motor.

That'd be a decent finish, in my opinion.

Somehwat of a case in point, Charlie B. didn't really get to play until Sarratt was hobbled.

Cig was husbanding the NIL funds. Can't let guys show they are going to be stars, too early, or the competition comes knocking.

Kidding... But not totally.

@iunorth I'm in agreement with you and it does appear the most potential playing time is for a big.

Per DeVries:

“Yeah, we’re still trying to add some depth on the interior, so that’s something we’re very actively doing, and so that’s a priority for us,” DeVries explained. “And then, again, just maybe adding a little more depth in a couple areas there just to cover us from a practice standpoint, from an injury standpoint. That’s kind of our priority with these last couple.”

-- The DeVries roster completion strategy: Shopping for a "bargain big" is the priority and then depth for practice and insurance follows.

I see Junjae Wang made a commitment to Massachusetts on Wednesday. As he made a campus visit to IU the staff apparently saw some things they liked about Wang. Just as well as I'd rather see a 6'10" plus player that is a better rebounder and defender than perimeter focused Wang.

@bigmike Ideally I'd like to see a big who has some perimeter/shooting skills but can defend the post. I think that would make us more multi-dimensional, vs another big who's going to be in the paint. I believe it is Sherrell's desire to play the 4, and I hope he does and can, but he's also going to be asked to spell the big man, so we have a starter and backup 5, imo. A big man who has perimeter skills would be a really nice compliment I think and enhance the roster. My view has always been you want a starter and backup for all 5 positions and then a developmental ball-handler, wing and post. I think we have the starter and backup at the 5 between the guys we have, so I'd like to see us get someone who adds another skill we are lacking a bit. Ironically a guy like Bailey from last year, or an underclassmen Haston type player I think would be ideal.

Beggars can't be choosers... would love to get a backup big 6'10" who can bang and also shoot the 3.  But I'll take a big who can rebound and get some buckets down low and give us minutes when needed.

I am hoping we fill out the roster before the Peru game.

I thought Wang was really bad, but Winker is scratching the bottom of the barrel.  His HS highlights are nightmarish.

This just feels like we are dead broke......As North mentioned, there sure looks like there would be some PT available for someone who could backup both the 4 & 5 positions.  If Sherrell & Zigi both average 27M per game, that would leave 26 minutes available for others at the 4 & 5.  Would you want Sisley playing only at the 4?  Wouldn't you want him playing on the wing also?  If he plays half his time at the 4, that would leave 13 for another transfer.  What happens if Yigi or Sherrell or Sisley miss sizable time with injuries?

There have been a good # of players 6 8, with size, and above, rated 150 and lower by 247 that have committed to other BT schools who looked like possible 10-15 minute guys for us.......but it feels like CDD is looking for a 0-5 minute guy......he just says "depth" not "quality depth" or "guys who can play for us".  That's concerning.  I can't see how adding another 10-15M big would cause problems with chemistry.  It doesn't make sense that we are are resorting to beating the bushes to find someone unless we are flat out of $.

They probably are dead broke. They probably had to pay 8-9 million for Burton and Sherrill alone. Remember Michicgan State and Houston could not match our  bids so we clearly offered a ton of money.

they better go find another 6-8m then. Because this roster won't win a thing ... making the tournament now with 76 teams isn't that hard to do... the floor just got raised.  Hurley was quoted the the minimum needed to be in contention , he felt was 14m. So using that number we need to be closer to 20m given we don't have Hurley as a coach.

IU added Clemens Sokolov a 6’11” German that will turn 19 later this month. Roster number 11 appears to be a player that requires some development. Is Sokolov better than Acimovic? I don’t have that answer.

Indiana has added one depth piece to the roster: Indiana Adds German 7-footer Clemens Sokolov - Hoosier Huddle

Barring a crazy jump in development, Sokolov should not be expected to help much, if at all, next season. That written, he is a legitimate 7-footer and can be a good practice body to go against Samet, Aiden Sherrell and whomever else IU adds in the frontcourt.

@bigmike I think Acimovic is a good comp. Sokolov is probably a bit better but for context: year 18 season in the German B league for Hannes Steinbach: 27.9 ppg and 12 rpg. Year 18 season for Sokolov: 6.4 and 5. This is a developmental practice piece (nothing wrong with that).
