The Indiana Hoosiers took another step towards rounding out their roster on Friday. Per Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress, Wuerzburg’s Clemens Sokolov committed to joining the program. Sokolov averaged 6.4 points and 5 rebounds in 23 minutes per game in Pro B Germany. He is 18 years old and is a developmental depth piece for the frontcourt.
Sokolov is a 7-footer that, at minimum, will be able to provide size for interior players to compete against in practice but expectations should be kept in check on what he should be expected to contribute in games. For context, Washington star Hannes Steinbach played in the same league and averaged 27.9 points per game and 12 rebounds per contest at the same age.
That being said, Sokolov does have potential and great size. He enters the program as a freshman and is Indiana’s 11th scholarship player. Head coach Darian DeVries can add two more scholarship players with the hope that at least one of them will be a frontcourt player who can play immediately.
